Well I have defected to the "other side". I recently (Sept. 2000) bought a 1973 model 105 GTV 2000 Bertone coupe. The reason for this is given below the pics.
I will be putting the bumpers back on the car.
I will be replacing the steering wheel and gearknob with wood/chrome parts. Infact a whole re-trim is not out of the question.
These photos are from when the car was rebuilt a few years ago.
As you can see, it was quite a lot of work
My fresh Twin Spark before it was placed in the GTV.
A 90's engine in a 1960's shape car, the best of both worlds.
Finally, after much hassle the Twin Spark is installed with the full injection set up. It took an enormous amount of work to fit the plenum under the bonnet. Originally the engine sat some 4cm above the bonnet line!

As you can tell it is a VERY tight fit but it was all worth it in the end.

winning 3rd place in the Modified class.
Bumpers have been added due to local laws (and I feel the front of the 2000 looks odd without them) but without the over riders so she now looks like a GTA. New number plates, new grille and new badges have also been added.

I have driven the car a lot and have decided to buy a "normal" car and finally do the GTV the way I want. It may take 5 to 10 years but I am too fussy to do things any other way.

The body needs a straighten up, the engine needs 250+ force fed horsepower, I need the suspension sorted, tyres with more profile, removal of the over riders on the rear bumper and a new interior.

Right now everything looks "OK" but I want a show winner and much. much more power. Stay Tuned.
Why I decided to abandon my own project with the Alfetta:

- To rebuild a car PROPERLY without any facilities to do my own work (nor the mechanical knowledge) I am looking at a minimum of $30,000 with a standard engine. It rises to over $40,000 with a turbo.

- I prefer the larger Alfetta body shell but the plastic bumpers have always bothered me.

- Over the past 12 months I have leant towards older and more "classic" Alfas.

- Re-sale value of a 105 Coupe is five times that of an Alfetta.

- There is something special about the early GTV coupes.

- For $12,000 I have a car with $38,000 worth of receipts with all the work already complete.

I still love the Alfetta and these were pretty special circumstances to make me change my mind. I know one day I will own my dream Alfetta but one has to love the shape of the 105 coupe as well.

Don't worry, I will still update this site!!!!!!!! The Alfetta side of me will not be discarded.
