Anyone with a name like Przedzial (pronounced Pshedjaaw) conjures up a question along the lines of "what the…?". In short, these six guys play rock, 80's style… in Polish!

Their gig at Revolver was part of the SBS 'Whatever Music' project, and they certainly drew in a big crowd. Most of the audience was Polish and their support was clearly heard throughout.

Przedzial started off with a well known hit Mniej Niz Zero (Minus Zero ) that had the audience going off. But it was to get better. A well-chosen repertoire from artists such as Lady Pank, Maanam, Dzem and Nalepa took the audience back to their youth days in Poland.

Bart, with his dynamic vocals, together with the great recognised riffs of Olek and Krzysiek , the gentle resonance of Tomek's keyboard combined with Lukasz' hip bass and Tomek's hard drumming produced a style of sound unlike heard at Revolver for a long time.

The boys clearly enjoyed themselves on stage, their contact with the audience being magnetic. Most sang along, their echoes carrying above Bart's voice. A couple of times the audience sang an entire chorus with Bart driving the crowd on.

For a non-Pole, it was obviously difficult to grasp the meaning of the lyrics although people did manage to translate enough to get the message across. It was interesting to note that some of the songs had actually been banned, or suppressed during the 80's -still the communist era. With most of the audience then being in their teens, their rebellion of those times was clearly showing through tonight.

As Olek aggressively began the last song Kryzysowa Narzeczona (Crisis Girlfriend) you could sense the bond that was in the ether. Not only did Kryzysowa start chaos amongst their own fans, but also drew in a large number of the non-Poles from the main room.

There was no doubt there would be an encore, and Tancz Glupia Tancz (Dance Stupid Dance) was duly dispatched to raptures. It is easy to see the influence that Lady Pank has on Przedzial; from the cries of Krzysiek's chorus-filled lead to the sharp bass of Lukasz and Tomek's perfected drumming of Szlagowski and Jablonski.

The guys weren't done though yet. Cries of jeszcze jeden, jeszcze jeden (one more, one more) got them up again to do a quick rendition of their opening Mniej Niz Zero.

Overall, it was a great gig, and one which suggests that hopefully this was the first of a number at Revolver.
As the audience slowly settled, the vodka kept flowing freely. Here's to Przedzial! Sto lat! (Cheers!).
