3DU has adopted the N.E.W.S.T.A.R.T. acronym.  Although what each letter stands for has remained the same (nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air (fresh), rest, trust in GOD) , the text associated with each category has been modified.

New Start Concept

Nutrition

Good tasting doesn't equal good for you.  Marketers are out to sell products and ploys like low fat or low cholesterol doesn't mean much if they have "tons" of sugar and lots of non-cholesterol oils/fats in their products.
Be a label reader, research; educate yourself so you can make healthy choices.
Heart disease may run in your family, but so might poor nutrition choices.

Exercise

Exercise is not only good for your inside body, it improves the look on the outside too.
Weight bearing exercises prevent osteoporosis and having a daily muscle stretching routine lessens the incidence of injury and improves flexibility.
If it were the natural course to become progressively more immobile as we age, there wouldn't be 70, 80, 90+ year olds doing yoga, aerobics and participating in weight training.

Water

The solution to pollution is dilution.
70% of your body is water and it functions at it's best  when hydrated.
Water washes and lubricates.  Headaches, backaches and general tiredness have been linked to dehydration.
Sorry, coffee and soda's don't count!!
Drink one half ounce of water per pound you weigh every day

Sunshine

Sunlight is a natural sanitizer.  Allow plenty of sunlight into your home.  Most bacteria, fungus and viruses thrive in dark humid environments.
Sunshine is also important in keeping bones healthy (allows vit. d conversion).
Ba(s)king in the sun everyday is not what I’m talking about here.
Spend time outside gardening, biking, walking, relaxing especially in the morning and evening.
If you anticipate a lengthy time in the sun (especially at mid day), put sun protection on your skin or cover exposed areas

Top

Temperance

Having moderation and self-restraint in all aspects of your life, moderation and self restraint in all aspects of your life.

Top

Air, fresh

When the weather is nice, open your windows.  Inside pollution can be worse than outside if no air is allowed to circulate through your home.
Think of all the cleaning products and chemicals (hair products, colognes, foot care products) you use on a daily or weekly basis and you'll understand what is meant here.

Rest

Oooooh, another biggy.  Sleep is healing and restorative.  Tiny muscle tears repair during sleep and your immune system gets a boost, but sleep isn't the only rest.
Find time to do the things that rest your mind and your body whether it be chatting with a friend, reading a book, hiking outdoors, sitting lazily on the deck or watching a movie with your family.
Think about the things you do that require little or no effort.  Even though sitting lazily on the deck may look restful, your mind may be wildly at work thinking about the things you could be doing and this is not restful at all and chatting with your friend could be a drain if he/she has a habit of gossiping about others.
Don't go for the things that look restful to you but that are restful for you

Trust in God

Two of my favorite verses are found in Jeremiah 17
Jeremiah 17:5 "cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength" and
Jeremiah 17:7 "blessed is the man who trusts in YHWH (the Lord) and whose confidence is YHWH (the Lord)"
