This Week's Jerk: Lars Ulrich
Okay, Tim and I are going to try to avoid turning the Lars Ulrich Jerk page into a typical rant... But it's so stinking hard! This guy is an absolute jerk! In case some of you don't know, Lars Ulrich (drummer for a washed-up 80's metal band) has been parading around on TV telling the young people that Napster music sharing software is depriving him of much-needed cash.
"The only thing ah like more better than drummin is screwin over mah fans!"
Lars makes millions of dollars off of selling music. Think about that; music! Beethoven didn't make millions off of music! Beethoven knew that music was just a hobby. That's why he became deaf; he had to pick up jack-hammering as a day-job.
This is what's known in the industry as the "Sassy bad-boy look."
Okay, it's bad enough that anyone is trying to shut down a service that provides thousands of new bands with great exposure opportunities. Whatever. But the really nasty thing is that Lars, a person who once was in a struggling band himself, is willing to turn his back on all of today's starving musicians. He's basically saying, "I got my foot in the door. Now screw the rest of you!" And he's saying the same thing to his fans. Everyone who once had a Metallica song on their computer had their account erased and were threatened with lawsuites... Okay, maybe it serves them right for owning horrible 80's butt-rock in the first place. Lord knows Tim and Pete never downloaded that crap! But man, it's the principle--a word Lars forgot the meaning of long ago. So won't you all please join us in welcoming Lars Ulrich: Jerk of the Week!
