The PCNC A/C Technical Session March 2001 By Chuck Melton

The Pantera Club of Northern California (PCNC) held its pre-Las Vegas tech session on March 31st. The topic of this event was to check out and recharge the A/C system, before heading across the desert to Las Vegas, for the annual POCA Fun Rally. While the focus was the A/C system, many other tasks were accomplished too.
Our hosts, once again, were Roger and Pam Sharp. Here, Roger shows me his old engine. This engine won the award for the most horsepower (normally aspirated) at the last Dyno Day. Roger is now building up and even more powerful engine, as this one has provided many years of worthy service.
Bill Santos (standing) was first on the A/C rack to get a top-up of Freon (R-12). The fittings are easily accessed in this way. With the cost and scarcity of R-12, it is a good idea to test the system for leaks, prior to adding additional Freon. To track down leaks, one uses a dye added to the mix, so finding a leak is simple. Bills system showed no evidence of a leak, so just a top off of refrigerant was in order.

Bill also brought his new Demon carburetor. The Demon is based upon the Holley design, but has an aluminum billet base instead. A common problem with the Holley is that the standard base gets cracked when it is over-torqued.

Terry Aultman arrived, and brought boxes of parts, not wanting to wait until the Swap Meet in 3 weeks. His prices were quite reasonable, so he took very little home.

New members Shirley Rafieetary (above, right), and hubby Moez perform an oil change on RUMBL, as Mike Drew takes a quick look under. Shirley describes the car as hers, and Moez is just a ride along mechanic. We have several members in the club with similar arraingements. This is the second PCNC tech session they have attended in just 8 days. This car was recently acquired, and they are busy doing all the new car maintenance.

Ben Rich has a California GTS that he has recently finished a restoration on. The interior is filled with the great smell of fine leather. The engine and body were also refreshed, and the car now sports new Campy-clone wheels in 17 diameter.

Long time PCNC member Tony Harvey presented his newly painted L. It had suffered some road debris damage, which led to some additional body work. The front was converted to early bumperettes, and the rear bumper was removed entirely. The color chosen is unique, closer to the typical yellow, than the stock orange.

Todd Glyer arrived, with his very clean yellow Pantera (below), now sporting Roger Sharps old 10 Campys. The club tries to keep rare parts in the club. Todd is now running a Fluidyne Radiator.
