�Road To Nowhere� Chapter 26: I'll Never Stop Dan walked up to his front door depressed. He missed Courtney like crazy and she hadn�t even been gone for a whole day yet. He dropped heavily onto his bed wishing the day would end. He tried to close his eyes, but they stung from his tears. What would he do without Courtney? �Come on Miller, get yourself together,� he said aloud. �You can get through this. That�s exactly what you told her.� Not expecting to get an answer, Dan was surprised to hear a voice behind him. �Yeah Miller, it�s not that bad.� �Hey Mama,� Dan said. �Come in.� �Thanks Danny,� Angela sat on his bed. �So what�s the deal with you and Courtney anyway?� �I asked her to marry me,� Dan answered truthfully. Angela took in a deep breath. �Wow. What did she say?� �No,� Dan said. �And then she left.� �Aww, Danny, I�m sorry,� Angela hugged him. �Love�s rough.� �You�re not helping,� Dan said miserably. �How about I make your favorite dinner tonight?� Angela suggested. �Nah, I�m not hungry,� Dan dismissed her suggestion. �Wow, Courtney must be some special young lady to make you not hungry,� Angela said sympathetically. �You have no idea,� Dan said. * * * * �Shit!� Courtney cursed at her car as it slowed to a stop on the side of the high way exit. �You piece of shit!� She had run out of gas. In her frantic hurry to get back, she hadn�t stopped for gas in more than five hours. She grabbed her keys and her purse and locked the car. Not wanting to hitch hike, she ran towards Dan�s house. She was getting tired but when she reached his street, it was all worth it. �Just a few more feet,� she egged herself on. �Just keep going.� She found his door a comfort to her. She held her hand over the bell unsure if she should ring it or not. �Oh come on, Courtney,� she told herself. �You�ve come this far, don�t stop now!� She heard the bell echo throughout the house. Sucking in her breath, she waited. She heard footsteps behind the door and knew it was him. She could feel his presence. He opened the door almost slamming it shut when he saw who was on the other side. His expression was encouraging. He wanted her to be there. �Courtney!� Dan said surprised to see her. �What are you doing here? I thought you were going to Orlando!� �Dan,� Courtney let out the breath she was holding. �Am I� am I� am I too late?� �Too late for what?� Dan asked her cautiously. �To say yes,� Courtney tried to explain. She was still panting from her run. �To say that I love you and want to be with you.� �Really?� Dan�s face lit up. �Really,� Courtney said as she threw her arms around him. �Then I�ll ask you again,� Dan got down on his knee. �Courtney, will you marry me?� �Yes!� Courtney said. Dan jumped up and hugged her. �But it has to be a long engagement.� �What made you change your mind?� Dan asked. �Your letter. It made me realize that you would love me no matter what,� Courtney replied. �Oh Courtney, I�ll never stop loving you,� Dan said. �I�ll never stop.� * * * *
