"Promises To Keep" Chapter 5: Too Soon To Tell

Melissa agreed to let Allison sleep a full night before going to another city. Allison agreed to let Melissa go to the next city. The girls slept and dreamed about their meeting with this new boy band.

Once they were awake and dressed the next morning, Melissa dragged Allison out the door. They ended up right back where they had started the day before at the airport. They handed over their tickets and flew to Salt Lake City, hoping for better results from this trip.

Mel? Allison asked as they flew.

Allie? Melissa replied.

Do you really think Dan will want to be with you again? Allison asked.

Yeah, of course he will. Why wouldnt he? Melissa asked suspiciously.

Well maybe hell think that you only want him because hes all over the TV and magazines and every other girl wants him, Allison said trying not to offend her friend.

But Im not! Melissa protested unsure of how true her words were.

Are you? Allison saw Melissas uncertainty.

Um, Melissa bit her lip. No, Ill just have to prove it to him.

Whatever you say, Mel. Whatever you say, Allison shook her head. She knew exactly where this would all end up.

We are the Titans! The mighty, mighty Titans! Trevor sang from the back of the bus.

Trev! Shut up! Jacob yelled at him.

Youve seen that movie way too many times! Erik added.

The guys were on their tour bus heading to Salt Lake City for their next concert. They were still getting on each others nerves. Hell, when werent they getting on each others nerves?

Guys, lets chill, Ashley suggested.

Yeah, Dan agreed with Ashley.

Then tell Trevor to turn that damn movie off! Jacob screamed.

Jake, whoa enough with the angst! Erik said. Weve had enough of your little outbursts.

Erik, I dont think you wanna start with me, Jacob threatened.

Ooh, what are you going to do? Erik mocked him.

Ashley and Dan were between the two in a flash. Neither wanted to see Erik and Jacob have it out. They had seen enough petty fights to last a lifetime.

Please, Dan begged. Just calm down and leave each other alone.

Then tell Erik and Trevor to leave me the hell alone! Jacob said stomping off into his bunk on the floor.

Erik, please, Jacob is hard enough to handle without you pushing his buttons, Ashley said calmly.

I heard that! Jacob yelled from behind the curtain.

Please? Ashley asked Erik again.

Fine, Erik scoffed. He then proceeded to sulk off into his bunk too. That left Ashley and Dan staring at each other.

We so need some days off, dude, Dan said to Ashley.

We need a break from each other, Ashley agreed.

With that the two parted and went their separate ways. Neither knew how much worse it could get and how high the tensions would build.

Welcome to Salt Lake City! The local time is 5:45 P.M. Enjoy your stay and thank you for flying American Airlines, the flight attendant said.

Come on Allie. We cant miss them this time! Melissa said frantically. Lets go!

Im coming! Allison said, visions of Ashley Angel dancing in her head.

Melissa and Allison ran through the airport and got a taxi. To the Metro Dome, Melissa said in between gasps of air.

The driver took off following long lines of cars. The highway was packed. Not only was it rush hour, but a boy band was in town. That meant over two hour delays on the freeways. Melissa saw this and felt her heart sink.

But Im breathing the same air as Dan Miller! she said aloud and to no one in particular. Allison and the driver looked at her strangely. Melissa blushed. Sorry.

Well, Mel, it doesnt look like were going to make it, Allison said sympathetically.

The driver saw how much this concert meant to the girls. Maybe we can take the smaller roads, he suggested.

Melissas face brightened. Would that get us there faster?

Its worth a shot, the driver said as he pulled off an exit. The concert starts in fifty-five minutes. Lets go.
