Figuring It Out Chapter 4: Vacation Adam my man! Jenna screamed. How is my fav bro-in-law? I laughed. Jenna could be such a dork. She went on with her conversation. So how would you like to see your bro and me today? Jennas face lit up. Yes! Cool. Ill let you talk to Dan She handed me the phone. Hey Adam! I said cheerfully. Jen didnt scare ya did she? No, are you guys really coming? Adam asked. Yep. Hey is Mom or Dad around? I asked. Yeah, hold on, Adam handed the phone to someone. Hello sweetie, my mother, Angela said. Hey Mom, I said smiling So youre coming to visit us? she asked. Yes and Im bringing Jenna with me, I replied. Oh good. We havent seen her in a long time, my mom paused. We havent seen you either. Well we have a whole week off, I told her. Okay well let us know when you get to the airport and well come and get you. I love you, she said. Love you too. Bye Mom, I said hanging up the phone. So? Jenna was bouncing around excitedly. So, we can go! I said hugging her. Yeah! she squealed. Lets pack. She ran up the stairs taking them two at a time. When I finally caught up with her I found her in our room throwing things into a suitcase. She wasnt just packing her clothes, but also mine too. Whoa tiger, settle down, I laughed. Danny call the airline and book us tickets. Ill take care of the packing, she commanded. Okay your highness, I said as I picked up the phone and found the number. Jenna listened while she packed. When I made the arrangements for an hour later she nodded her head in approval. I put the phone back into the cradle and helped her pack decently. Come on! Hurry up! Lets go! she was practically foaming at the mouth. What's your rush? I asked her. Its my family. But its my vacation time! she protested. Lets just get it started! Okay, okay, I said shutting the suitcase. I picked it up along with the duffel bag and we proceeded down the stairs. Where are you two of to on this fine vacation day? Ashley said in a singsong voice. Ohio, Jenna said happily. Were going to see Dans family. Cool, cool, Ashley said. Im flying to Redding tonight. Have fun. Thanks Ash, I said patting him on the back. See ya at the end of the week. K, man, see ya then, Ashley said returning the back patting. Jenna and I said goodbye to Trevor and Jacob and then we left for the airport. We boarded our plane and found seats together even though the plane was packed. Danny, Im so glad that were going to see your family, Jenna said to me. Why? I asked her. Dont you want to go to your house? Um, she bit her lip. My parents and I kinda got in a fight last week. I dont want to be anywhere near them right now. I put my arm around her shoulders and pulled her toward me. Its okay, Jen. Im here for you and my family is so glad that youre coming too. Thanks Dan, she said kissing my cheek. The rest of the flight was non-eventful. Jenna and I talked a little but pretty much just enjoyed the thought of having the week off. When we landed, I was nervous. We got off the plane and called my house. While we waited for them to pick us up, we got our luggage. Finally I saw my mom and dad walking toward us. They looked so happy to see us. Jenna dropped her bag and ran to them. Its so good to see you guys, she said embracing them at the same time. You too, Jenna, my mother said. Danny, its good to have you home. Its good to be home, I replied also hugging them. Son, you look good, my dad said to me. Thanks Dad, I said pulling away. You look good too. We walked out to the car and drove home. Jenna smiled the whole way. I could tell she was glad that she had family other than her own parents. When we pulled into the garage, Adam came bounding out of the house. Adam! I screamed. Dan! he screamed back playing our game. Man of the house? I asked him. Nope, you are and always will be, he said hugging me. Aww, man, its good to be home, I said. Im glad you came, Adam replied. Adam! Jenna said hugging him. Hey Jen! Adam said lovingly. Jenna was like the big sister he never had. They had a special bond between them. I missed you. I missed you too, Adam, she told him ruffling his hair. My thoughts exactly. |
