Figuring It Out Chapter 13: Tears

Epilogue

Dan stood over Jennas grave wearing the same black suit he had been wearing all day long. A tear fell from his eye and he knew what he had to do. He placed the five red roses, one for each member of the band, near the headstone and began the song.

And even though the moment passed me by, I still can't turn away, I saw the dreams you never thought you'd lose, tossed along the way, Dan paused as he heard footsteps behind him.

Ashley, Trevor, and Jacob walked up behind their friend. Did you lose yourself somewhere out there, did you get to be a star? Ashley sang.

Trevor and Jacob joined Dan in his tribute. Don't it make you sad to know that life, is more that who we are. We grew up way too fast and now there's nothing to believe.

The songs melody lingered in the air around them. Dan began his final verse. I think about you all the time, but I don't need the same. It's lonely where you are, come back down. And I won't tell em your name.

When the song was over all realized that the others were crying. Silently at first but then more deeply. Jenna had touched each of them and they would never be able to forget that.

With one final glance the guys turned and began to walk out of the cemetery. Dan stopped, humming another song. Jacob picked up on the tune and the guys sang one final song with their fallen friend.

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing, Watch you smile while youre sleeping, While youre far away and dreaming, I could spend my life in this sweet surrender, I could stay lost in this moment forever.

Trevor wiped at his tears, but it did no good as they were still flowing steadily from his eyes.

I dont want to close my eyes, I dont want to fall asleep, Cause Id miss you baby, And I dont want to miss a thing, Cause even when I dream of you, The sweetest dream will never do, Id still miss you, And I don't want to miss a thing.

And as the guys walked away from the somber goodbye, heaven smiled down on them. Jenna was gone but a part of her would live on through the guys.

And they felt her smile.
