It Should've Been Easy Chapter 5: I Thought I Knew

A month later

Rachel and Josh had kept in close contact to the point of becoming a couple. They saw each other whenever possible. Meanwhile Dan and Robin had broken up. It had been a messy parting. Dan had been depressed ever since.

The guys were on vacation because their tour had ended. They were writing for the new album to keep them busy. Dan had asked Rachel to meet him in the studio. She assumed that he wanted to go over a few song demos.

Rachel walked to the studio with her cell phone glued to her ear. She was talking to Josh but not about anything important.

I miss you too, Josh, Rachel said opening the door.

Dan was already seated and had a look on his face that told Rachel to get off the phone.

Okay Joshie, Ill call you later okay bye, Rachel hung up the phone and sat across from Dan. Whats up?

Are you and Josh serious? Dan blurted out.

What? Rachel asked shocked at his bluntness.

Has he told you that he loves you? Dan asked more directly.

Whoa. Those are personal questions, Rachel told him.

I dont think you should see him, Dan said seriously.

What? Rachel was outraged. Why the hell not?

Because, Dan fished for a response. You never see each other.

You and Robin never saw each other, Rachel shot back sarcastically. Whyd you break up with her anyway? It seemed like you guys were the perfect couple.

Thats none of your business, Dan said. Were talking about you, not me.

Oh, so your love life is off limits but mine is an open book? Rachel jumped up. I didnt want to talk about it in the first place!

Youre going to get hurt, Dan warned, also standing.

You know what, Dan? Rachels voice was raised and dangerously close to screaming.

What? Dan asked careful not to raise his voice also.

Im your manager. I can handle myself, Rachel yelled at him. You know what else?

Dan just looked at her with his jaw clenched tight. He didnt want to lash out at her again. He was already sorry for the words that had come out of his mouth.

I dont think youre over Robin yet, Rachel turned and walked out the door.

Ten minutes later

Trevor tried to open the bathroom door. He found it locked. This seemed odd to him since each of the guys was doing something else. He knocked lightly on the door. Hello? he said.

Trev? he heard Rachels voice reply.

Yeah. Rach, what are you doing here? Trevor asked.

Rachel unlocked the door and stood in front of Trevor with tear stained eyes. He didnt hesitate as he gave her a huge hug and walked her back into the bathroom. He locked the door again so they could talk.

Trevor and Rachel sat on the floor with their backs against the wall. Trevor put his arm around her shoulders and let her cry. When her tears had almost stopped, he decided to find out what was going on.

Rachel? Whats wrong? Trevor asked softly.

Oh Trev, Dan and I got into a fight, Rachel told him.

About what? Trevor handed her a tissue.

Josh, Rachel wiped at her eyes.

You fought about Josh? Trevor asked.

Rachel nodded. Trev, will you take me home?

Sure, Trevor helped her up and took her out to his car. Ill drive you home and you can get your car tomorrow.

Rachel nodded. He drove her to her apartment. Trevor walked her in and made sure that she would be okay.

Rach, do you want me to stay with you? Trevor asked.

Rachel nodded. But just until I fall asleep.

Of course, Trevor sat next to her on the bed.

He rubbed her arms and watched her drift off to sleep. Once he had made sure she was sound asleep, he set a glass of water by her bed and left.
