It Should've Been Easy Chapter 2: Words To Say

After the show

Danny! Robin threw herself as Dan.

Hey Robbie! Dan said using her nickname while hugging her.

Rachel turned away. She couldnt bear to watch their public display of affection; it hurt too much. She tried to keep herself busy with the other guys.

Here Ash, she said handing him a shirt.

Thanks Rach, Ashley said putting it on.

No problem, she smiled at him thankful for the distraction. Okay guys, we need to be out of here five minutes ago.

Rachel? Trevor said her name.

Yeah Trev, Rachel said gathering their random items.

Are we going to a hotel tonight? he asked exhausted.

Rachel turned to look at him. She handed him a bottle of water before she replied. Sorry Trevor. We have to travel all night on the bus.

What? Jacob exclaimed loudly. We have to sleep on the bus again?

The guys groaned.

Sorry guys, Rachel said.

She ushered them out the door to the bus. Robin never left Dans side. Once inside the guys each grabbed a bunk and hit the sack. They were all tired from their performance. Even though Rachel knew Dan would be the first one to be asleep, she could hear Robins giggles throughout the bus.

This is one of those times I wish I was on the other bus, Rachel thought to herself referring to the crew bus.

She tried to disconnect herself from the world around her by busying herself with management work. She was still busy at 2 AM when Dan came to the front of the bus for a snack.

Hey Rach, he said.

Hi Dan, she replied not quite looking up.

What are you doing up? Dan asked taking food from the fridge.

Just working on some paperwork, Rachel told him.

An awkward silence fell over them while Dan made a sandwich. When he finished, he took a seat next to her.

You want half? he offered.

Sure, Rachel took half of the sandwich. Thanks.

Youre welcome, Dan said looking around the bus.

So why arent you asleep? Rachel asked.

I dont know. Im kind of distracted I guess, Dan didnt look at Rachel.

Yeah. Like with writing for the album and stuff? Rachel asked.

Dan hesitated. He didnt want to tell her the real reason he couldnt sleep. He didnt think that she would understand. Yeah, he finally replied.

The silence set in again. Rachel signed off a few more papers then shut her folder. She looked at Dan. He was watching her intently. She wondered what was going on in his head. She didnt want to press it though.

Well Im going to bed now, Rachel stood up.

Okay. See you in the morning, Dan said.

Night, Rachel walked to the back of the bus leaving Dan by himself.

Dan mentally kicked himself. Why cant you just talk to her? Why cant you just tell her whats on your mind? Jeehz Miller, you suck at this kind of thing.
