�Constant Change� Chapter 5: I Do It For You �What happened?� Lisa asked not believing what Valerie was telling her. �Dan punched Ashley in the face because Ashley was being a jerk to you?� Cameron asked confused. �Yep,� Valerie sighed. �I don�t know what Ashley�s problem is.� �What Ashley�s problem is?� Lisa asked outraged. �You�re leading him on! That�s what his problem is.� �I�m leading him on?� Valerie screamed. �Why don�t you ask your perfect boy, Ashley what his fucking problem is!� �Ashley doesn�t have a problem. He has me,� Lisa said sweetly. �Huh uh,� Valerie said. �Now you�re going to get it.� Valerie lunged at Lisa but Cameron caught her just in time. �Whoa Val, calm down. Don�t do something that you�re going to regret.� �Tearing her to shreds is not something that I�m going to regret,� Valerie said through her clenched teeth. Just then the door to the discipline office opened revealing Ashley and Dan standing as far away from each other as the doorway would allow. Neither looked to be in the best of moods but they both looked relieved. Ashley walked quickly up to Lisa taking her hand and walking away but not before giving Valerie a dirty look. Cameron looked at Valerie in confusion. He knew what was going on and felt sorry for Valerie. She hadn�t asked for any of this to happen to her. �What�s he got to be mad at you for?� �That prick,� Valerie muttered. She felt someone touch her arm. She turned and came face to face with Dan Miller. He smiled at her. �Hi,� he said shyly. �Hi!� Valerie said brightly. She was glad he was there. Cameron saw the excitement in her face and excused himself. �I�m Dan,� Dan extended his hand. �Valerie,� she said shaking his hand. �About what happened back there,� he said. �Thanks,� Valerie said. �He shouldn�t have treated you like that,� Dan told her. �Yeah, but he did and I�m glad that you were there to stick up for me,� Valerie�s smile grew wider. �Hey, it was nothing,� Dan brushed it off as if he had picked up a book for her. �I�m just glad you�re okay.� �Yeah, I�m fine. Ashley doesn�t seem to understand that I don�t want to be with him,� Valerie shook her head. She didn�t know why she was opening up to a complete, but totally hot, stranger. Maybe it was the sympathetic smile on his face or the compassion in his voice. �If you ever need someone to stick up for you again or need a friend to talk to, I�m here,� Dan said timidly. His cheeks were turning a light shade of pink. �Thanks, I could use another friend right now,� Valerie said sweetly. Dan and Valerie exchanged phone numbers. Dan carefully folded the paper with Valerie�s number and stuck it in his jeans pocket. Valerie watched the care he put into it. Her heart melted at his consideration. �I guess I�ll see you later then,� Dan said with an attractive smile on his face. �I guess you will,� Valerie replied trying her hardest not to scream out in joy. She watched as Dan walked away to his group of friends. Cameron saw that Dan had left Valerie standing by herself so he went back over to her. Valerie�s smile lit up the room. �Whoa, someone seems a little bit happy,� Cameron observed. �Totally,� Valerie sighed. �He�s such a sweetie.� �Well I�m glad, but Ashley still has a thing for you,� Cameron brought her back to reality. �Oh yeah,� Valerie rolled her eyes again. �What am I going to do about him?� ~*~
