Constant Change Chapter 4: Everything I Do Ashley chewed on the end of his pen. He sat in his math class bored as hell. He was tapping his foot anxiously and starting to annoy the people around him. Too bad for them, he thought to himself. He looked at the clock hoping that it was almost time for lunch. Hey, he had promised Valerie that hed be waiting for her in the library. He hoped that shed actually show up and without Lisa. The bell finally rang and Ashley jumped out of his seat. He took huge strides hoping to catch Valerie early. He saw her standing in front of the library and walked just a little bit faster. Her beauty blinded him. She was tall and fair skinned. Her hair was a light brown with natural blonde streaks. As she walked, people stopped and stared. There was something in the air around her that screamed look at me. Her eyelashes were coated with mascara but looked natural. Her eye shadow was gold and sparkled in the fluorescent lighting. Ashley loved it. She looked like a goddess. She looked like a challenge. Hello Ashley, her voice snapped him out of his fantasies. Hello gorgeous, he tried his best to sound sexy. What do you want? she sounded irritated. You, Ashley told her. Valerie was about ready to punch him in the face. Ashley, just leave me alone. You have Lisa, you dont need me too. Valerie started to walk out of the library leaving Ashley standing there. He caught her arm and pulled her around to face him. Let go! Valerie screamed. Everyone in the library turned to see what was going on. Valeries crush, Dan, was standing feet away from them. He walked over to Ashley. Hey buddy, leave the girl alone, Dan said harshly. Whats it to you? Ashley asked turning away from Valerie to face Dan. You have no right to treat her like that, Dan stood his ground. And what are you going to do about it? Ashley said sardonically. This, Dan punched Ashley right in the nose. Ashleys fist clenched, as he was about to hit Dan back. Teachers broke the two apart. Valerie watched in horror as the guy she was infatuated with stood up for her, he didnt even know who she was. Both of you to the principals office, a teacher told them. Shaking off the people who restrained them, they walked to the office. Valerie sat in a chair beside the librarian. What happened? the librarian asked. I I dont know, Valeries hands shook. I dont even know Dan. Ashley said he wanted to talk before lunch and then and then And then the fight broke out? the librarian suggested. Yeah, Valerie said. The librarian patted her hand and got up. Valerie sat in silence trying to figure out what had just happened. She came to no positive conclusions except that Dan Miller had defended her. ~*~
