�Better Than Best� Chapter 20: Better Than Best �Dan, I feel bad. I�m gonna go talk with Ash,� I said. �Fine, but be careful around him,� Dan warned. I went to find Ashley. He was sitting by the pool. �Jen, don�t. Just don�t,� Ashley said. �Oh come on Ash, you�re gonna have to talk to me sooner or later. Even if it is just to ask me to pass the remote,� I sat beside him. �And we know what the answer to that would be,� Ashley said. �No way in hell,� we said together. �Ash, I want you to be my maid of honor. I would ask you to be the best man, but that�s Dan�s job and after your incident in the kitchen�� I said with a straight face. �Jen, about that,� Ashley said. �Ash, I can�t be with you. I don�t love you the way I love Dan. You�re my best friend, that�s why I called you first.� �Jen, you deserve better than the best,� Ashley said. �Ash, Dan is my better than best. Please say that you understand.� �I�m sorry for acting like a jerk. I�m happy for you,� we hugged and I felt tears sting my eyes. Ashley�s eyes glistened too. �So about the maid of honor thing,� I said as we walked toward the house. �Do you want your dress to be pink or red?� �I�m thinking pink,� Ashley laughed as we walked into the house. Our giggles echoed throughout the silent house. When the door shut heavily, Dan looked up from the couch. Ashley walked over to him as Dan got up. �Dan,� Ashley looked at the ground. �Ashley,� Dan replied. �I�m sorry for being such a jerk. I am so happy for you,� Ashley said. �So, are we cool?� �Come here,� Dan said as he pulled Ashley into a hug. �Dude, I knew you�d come around. I love ya, man.� �I�m glad we�re tight, in a manly way of course,� Ashley said as the tears fell from his eyes. Dan�s eyes were red too. I watched them and tears formed in my eyes. I was so happy that everything was finally working out. Everything was perfect. My best friend and new fianc�e were friends again and I had a wedding to plan. Could life get any better? �Aww, come here, Jenna,� Dan said as he pulled me into their group hug when he saw my watery eyes. Jacob and Trevor walked in on our group hug. �Is everything okay with you guys now?� Trevor asked. �Yes,� Dan, Ashley, and I said together. Trevor and Jacob were feeling the love and joined the hug. �Guys, I love you all so much. Thanks for everything,� I said. �Jenna, we love ya too! That�s why we�re going to throw you the hugest bridal shower ever!� Trevor said. �And then we�re going to get Dan really drunk and take him to strip clubs for the bachelor party,� Jacob said. I gave him a look. �Just kidding,� he smiled at me. �You guys are the best�� I was saying just as the doorbell rang.
