| Umber and Nemerith watched their siblings take to the air unsteadily. "She's riding without a harness." Umber grunted. His huge bronze swung his wedge-shaped head around to look closely at Umber. Yes, that is correct. Mezarouth dislikes the harness. I think he is foolish for that, but it is his choice. "Is it. I thought it was the weyrling master's. And boy are they getting in trouble for it, huh?" Umber let a little grin slip as he watched his sister get royally yelled at by that very same grisled man. You do not ask me to do the wrong things. But I sense in your mind that we will be doing things that people will not approve of. Why is that? "Because people don't know what's good for them." And you do. "And I do." Umber smirked. "Of course I do. Who doubts a bronze rider? Especially one with such a fine dragon?" |

| "So you're going to let her stay?" Cinnabar grunted. "As if I have some magical say in the matter?" Umber snorted, and tucked his riding helmet's flaps into the top of his jacket. "Let's go." Umber and Nemerith were ready to leave, Sienna had demanded to remain on at Cincanta for a while longer, until this flight with the Gold was settled. Cinnabar didn't seem entirely comfortable with the idea of leaving OR staying. Come, bring along your sulking brother if you can. But you want to go back to this place I have never seen. I am getting tired of staying here. There are too many eyes upon us here. "I agree, my friend," Umber said, and climbed to his harness. The dragon simply dwarfed him, as any bronze should. Yet Umber sat in the harness at the base of the dragon's neck with ease and confidence, as befitted a man of his station. Perhaps those at the Protectorate would see that -- but what Umber really wanted was not a wing for his own to command. He merely wanted to do what he'd always done, listen in and command from the sidelines. There are others who claim to be doing that already. Might we speak with them? That would be an excellent plan. I know just the people to see, too. They don't know it yet, but they've really helped me out figuring out what to do with my life. Really? Well. I hope that I have played a bit part in that play then. Umber scratched Nemerith's neck, reached up and patted his bronzed nose. "Of course you have. You've got a starring role, you know. Some day, my friend, you and I will be at the top of a much more interesting pile of people than just now..." |
