"We Work so that you Can Play"
What is the Props Crew? We are the logistical tactitians for the University of Georgia Redcoat Band. We move equipment such as speakers and ladders, we "make water," we drop flags and batons for the auxilary members, and we set up the sound-system. We basically do all the work that no one else wants to do. In between, we like to play cards and go to the ROO. We are band roadies. The only difference between us and real roadies is that we don't get any of the left-over band groupies.
You're in the band? What do you play?
When people ask me this, I hesitate and say "I don't play music, I'm on the Properties Crew." This confuses them. A lot. They think I have to "play" something to be in the band. So I tell them I play the "get up early and arrive at the feild before anyone else" game. I play the "drop and pick up flags/pom-poms/batons" game. I also play "hand out plumes" and "pick up the Redcoats' trash."
The truth is that I am a logistical specialist for the Redcoats. The person nods in bewilderment.
