When I download the zip file and try to open it, it says it isn't a valid archive.

Try downloading the file again - something disrupted the download. If the problem persists, try downloading without having any other websites open, or try downloading at a different time.

Why are there no real WWE wrestlers in my game?

WWE requested the removal of any of their trademarks from the game that I distribute on this site. It is possible to add WWE (and several other promotions and wrestlers) to your game by downloading stats updates from the Resources Page, or the Resources section of the PW Forums.

I get the message Run-time Error 7 - Out Of Memory.

This means the game is trying to do something, but there isn't enough RAM for it to do it. This can be for various reasons. Usually its because the player has several other applications open at the same time - you might be listening to music, surfing the net, chatting on messenger - and the amount of RAM you have can't handle it all. So in that case, you'd just need to use less applications at the same time (restarting your PC free's up all memory if you have continued trouble).

Occasionally, people have had this error because they've been starting the game the wrong way. If you get the error as soon as you start up the game, check that you installed the game into a new, empty folder, and that after installation you have in that folder 2 more folders - 'Data' and 'Images', which both have files inside them. If you don't, check that you followed the installation process correctly, as shown on the Downloads page.

How do I add shows?

The game awards you extra shows as you progress through the game.

My promotion is at 100% popularity, I always get good ratings for my shows - when will my promotion get promoted to Local TV / Regional TV / National TV?

Your promotion doesn't move up to the next level as soon as your popularity reaches 100%. It just means you have a hot product at the minute. You need to sustain a hot product consistently over a period of time in order to progress. To go from the very bottom to the very top can take around 5 years game-time.

I get the message Run-time Error 53 - File Not Found.

This one is exactly as it says - its looking for a file, and it can't find it. The download on my site comes with all the necessary files needed, so this is usually when you've downloaded a scenario that hasn't included all the files needed, or you're creating a new promotion yourself, and haven't included all the files needed. When you refer to an image in the editors, be careful to write the filename exactly how it is spelled (including the extension like .jpg).

This error also sometimes happens when you try to load a saved game, and the name you had given the save included a symbol (such as - ! / &). It is therefore recommended that you include only letters and numbers when naming a saved game, and future versions of the game will be altered so symbols can't be used.

I get the message Run-time Error 62 - Input Past End Of File.

This means that the files that hold all the data have been altered incorrectly using Notepad. If it's a scenario or stats update you're using, then the person who made it will have to find their mistake and correct it - usually an extra line where there shouldn't be one. If it isn't a stats update or scenario, then 99% of the time it means that you've altered a file yourself at some point using Notepad, and have made a mistake. I always recommend not opening any of the data files, any editing should be done using the official editors available on the Resources page here.

If you downloaded the game from a different site to this one, you may not have the latest version of the game. Download the game from this site, and you won't get this message.

I keep getting sacked no matter how well I'm doing. Or, I get strange numbers in my game eg. zero buys for a PPV.

Cause:

Your Global Settings in Windows may not be set to English, which causes the numbers in the game to be read incorrectly.

Solution:

Check your Global Settings, change to English if not already.

Where can I get older versions of Promotion Wars?

Here.

What did you use to make Promotion Wars?

I used programming software called Visual Basic 6. This is commercial software, and can cost upwards of £70 for a new copy. EBay regularly has versions for sale at better prices than that, and an older version like Visual Basic 5 will do everything you need.

I've got Visual Basic, but I don't know how to make a game. Are there any tutorials online?

There is a very good step by step tutorial here.

The game crashes when I release a wrestler.

This happens when using a stats update or scenario which has wrestler's contracts that run out before the start date of the game. Contact the person who made the scenario / stats update so they can correct it.
