Overview
Go back to the Arches Information Page
- Arches National Park located in Moab, Utah.
-
Maps of Arches show the location and time period.
- The rocks are formed 180 million years ago.
- The geologic history shows that the salt bed was covered over by water and then deposits made a large amount of debris and this debris hardened into rock.  This rock was eroded by the wind and water.  Then domes were formed.  These domes were eroded more to create these formations.
- The plates moving created the rock deposits to fall into the crevices and create domes.
- The major changes are the 5,000 feet of rock that was eroded.
- The terrain is rather flat but hilly near the formations.  It is a very rocky environment and it is "high and low" the whole way.  There will be a big jut out of the ground in the middle of no-where.
- Elevation is 3000 to 5000.
- The Colorado River is the main water near Arches
- The
weather changes year round.
- Pictures are in the
"sights" part of the site.
