I chose to do my report on the Wells Fargo Code of Ethics. Being an employee, not only can I learn from this homework assignment, but I can critique it as a student as well.

The code of ethics for a company such as Wells Fargo is quite extensive. They’re so many different areas of ethics that need to be addressed it is quite thorough. The sum of all this relies around some key areas. Doing what is right for the customer, and to serve Wells Fargo’s best interests. Being in the banking industry, you will have to always know the federal and state regulations and current laws that deal with financial institutions. During every quarter we take our standard quarterly testing that is mandatory, this is so that you can always keep up with new laws and stay in touch with the older ones that are still in place. You also have knowledge about your job and the products you are providing to your customer. Following the code of ethics is extremely important, and you must do so with the most caution. You have access to social security numbers, account numbers, addresses, and phone numbers. You have to be trustworthy and act honest to make sure you always do what is best for the customer. In the retail environment, where bonuses are given when quarterly goals are met and exceeded, many employees have found them selves “Gaming” the system. Such as opening accounts for customers that did not request them, or sending out credit cards for those same people. The simple root of evil that is money, can lead to the code of ethics being compromised, and customers being treated unfairly and in most cases end up with financial struggles. As an employee for such a company I have to follow the code of ethics everyday. I make sure I follow strict guidelines and always do what is right for my customers.
