This is a specialized way of seeing contour
edges. It requires finding the terminus (define)
of
an edge and moving one's eye along the edge, noticing as much about the
line as one desires, but paying particular attention to how the line begins
and ends. Since most novices (define)
are unaccustomed to focusing their attentuion in this way, It is best for
the beginner to start by continuously moving their eye as SLOWLY as possible
in jumps no larger than their sharp vision
area. Sometimes, at first, novices find this task difficult. Their
eyes want to jump ahead especially to upcoming features. They want to scan
in its usual manner. Will power and discipline are required not to slip
into the old habit. After a few sessions, this way of viewing becomes easier,
and the perceptive individual will notice that they notice many more, much
smaller features.
