| DRAWING II - Project I - FLOWERS FOR DINE | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Drawing by Jim Dine | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Jime Dine is an American painter, printmaker and draughtsman. For more information on him go here. You can view works by Dine in a selection of galleries and museums by going here. The image above is an example of one of Dine's drawings. What I want you to notice about it is that, even though the tool (C-clamp) is rendered accurately from observation, his use of value is not limited to a discriptive role. Meaning the use of value is not only "in" the subject, the tool, but also outside the subject. In this way the use of value in the negative areas "activates" the space and provides visual interest. Using contour line to render the subject and then incorporating value to, not only describe or define the form, but also to visually stimulate the negative area of the composition is an objective of this assignment. Emphasis should also be placed on accurate rendering of the subject and mark making. |
