Covering Letters
In addition to your Personal Resume and Selection Criteria Statement (where requested by the employer's job advertisement), I recommend that you aways include a Covering Letter. This sets the tone for your application, and gives you an opportunity to introduce yourself, and describe some of your attributes which you consider make you the best person for the job.

Ideally, the Covering Letter should only be one page in length. Any longer, and you may lose the employer's attention.

If the advertisement only asks for your Resume, I still recommend that you include a Covering Letter. This is a more professional approach and allows you to promote yourself up front, by addressing a few of the main requirements of the job.

Your Covering Letter, Resume & Selection Criteria Statment should always be typed.

A Covering Letter can be your first opportunity to attract an employer's attention, whatever your background!
