Last rites first blood
Maybe a dream but then it's clear enough
Can't hide can't sleep
Is it the vision or the body heat?

It didn't seem right to him somehow, watching her walk by the lake, that she should be alone today. She was by herself, that much he was sure of, having been treated the night before to each and every male Ranger telling him of their plans for today with members of the fairer sex. He had none of his own, and through some discreet questioning of Tanya, he knew that Kat didn't either. So, deciding that the time had come for him to finally do something about his feelings for her, instead of watching from afar, Billy had left the Power Chamber this morning the with express idea of finding Kat and telling her once and for all how he felt.

Not an easy task for one as shy as Billy really was, but one he was determined to carry out.

So, with the single minded determination that the ex-Blue Ranger was famous for when he was working on something vitally important, he had set out this morning. It had taken him almost two hours searching every single florist in Angel Grove before finding what he was after. Billy had almost despaired of finding what he wanted until the very last florist in Angel Grove had what he was after. So, the small bunch of flowers in one hand, and a picnic basket in the other, he finally spotted her by the lake. Hiding the flowers behind his back, he headed down to where she was sitting on a park bench by the water.

True love's when your heart's on fire
If I'm the paper you're the sparkin' wire
True love's when your heart's on fire

Kat was lost in thought, but wasn't really thinking about anything in particular really. She was just sitting there, enjoying the soft breeze and the quietness of the park when suddenly a bunch of very familiar flowers was held in front of her.

"Surprise Kat." Kat reached for the flowers without really thinking, seeing flowers that she didn't think she'd see again for a long time. And then the voice registered as her hands wrapped around the strong, warm hand holding the flowers and she looked up, surprised and a wide smile appeared on her face as she saw who was standing before her.

"Billy! This is a wonderful surprise." Kat didn't remove her hands from his, enjoying the closeness of their positions for a long moment, her blue eyes locking with his. Billy smiled widely back at her, glad that she was surprised. Kat had always liked Billy, and sometimes wondered if he'd return her feelings one day, as she thought of him as more than a friend, but didn't say anything out of fear he didn't return her feelings.

"Glad you like it. May I join you?" Kat nodded, reluctantly removing her hand slightly so that he could sit down beside her. It was then that she noticed the basket in his other hand. She raised an eyebrow at him as she brought the flowers close to smell. It had been a long time since she'd seen native flora from back home in Australia, and it made the bouquet even more special to her.

"Please do. And just how did you know that these where my favourites from back home?"

One step too deep
I made a promise now it's hard to keep
One word one kiss
Come any closer and you burn like this

Kat's soft Australian accent and the joy in her eyes made all the trouble he'd gone to this morning worthwhile. He grinned at her as he sat down next to her, putting the basket on the bench beside him.

"It wasn't too hard." Here he blushed and ducked his head a little, embarrassment tinging his tone. "I ah," He felt a gentle, soft hand lift his chin and turn his head to look at her. Curious looking eyes studied him a moment, her delicate lips pursed slightly and then a knowing look appeared in her eyes and she gave him a wicked looking grin.

"The research paper Tanya and I had to do on unusual flora and fauna for Biology. You heard us talking about flowers and weird bushes and made a few educated guesses I bet." Billy blushed harder but refused to drop his gaze as he gave her a shy smile.

"Ah yes. You caught me. I heard it and filed it away, never thought it'd come in handy. And today, well I wanted today to be special for you, so I thought a little touch of home would be nice." Kat's eyes misted over slightly and her wicked grin softened into a shy smile of her own. She dropped her hand almost reluctantly he thought and she clasped the flowers to her chest.

Kat studied Billy before her, noticing really for the first time how much older, more mature, more confident he seemed these days, ever since he'd given up his powers. It was a side that she found she liked. But she dragged her mind off that reflection as she pulled herself back to the present, it was important that she stayed focussed on him, on this moment. His eyes were blue pools that she found herself falling into. Without really thinking about it, she raised her hand up again and gently placed it on his cheek. Perhaps, maybe perhaps he did return her feelings.

"Thank you Bill, I'm glad you thought of it." Billy's eyes never left hers and he smiled, marvelling at the sparks he felt travelling through him at the touch of her hand on his cheek. Almost reluctantly, Kat seemed to realise where they were and lowered her hand. She gave him a shy smile as she inhaled the fragrance of the native Australian wildflowers he had brought her. Noticing the picnic basket, Kat wondered what other surprises Billy had in store for her this afternoon. "So, am I to guess what the basket is for?" She couldn't help but tease him a little, enjoying the look on his face. He gave her a grin and stood, holding out his hand for her to take it. Kat didn't even think, she took it and he pulled her to her feet and grinned warmly at her.

"It's another surprise. Trust me?" Kat nodded and laughing softly he began to walk besides her, guiding her deeper into the park.

"Always Bill."

You're talking trouble when you move this fast
You're never certain that the light will last
You've got to wonder when the place will blow
Leaving nothing but a bed of coals

I made a promise not to fall this time
And not to watch another love go blind
Not to let another flame burn low
Now I'm praying that you won't let go

Kat was holding his hand! His heart was racing a mile a minute it felt like and all he could think of was that Kat was holding his hand. The sweet, yet dangerous, beautiful Australian was holding his hand. They walked along in silence, both content to enjoy the moment. Finally Billy reached the spot he wanted to bring her to. It was in a secluded grove, at the top of a small hill. Not very many people knew about it and it was the first time Billy had brought Kat here. He reluctantly let go of her hand and sat the basket down, taking a blanket out of it, Kat sat the flowers down on the basket absently and then she started looking around, and seeing the view finally and she gasped.

"Bill, it's breathtaking." He finished putting the blanket on the ground and setting the basket on it before moving over to stand next to her. He liked the way his name sounded in her softly accented voice and how suddenly it was Bill, not Billy. He liked that even more. So, standing next to her, enjoying the view, he decided to take a gamble.

"This is my favourite spot in the entire park." Billy stood slightly closer than normal to her and put his arm around her shoulder and was rewarded instantly with her leaning against him. His heart began beating even faster if that was possible and he smiled gently. "I come up here when I need to think or some time alone. I like to think of it as my little hideaway."

Well all right it's hot stuff
It's hard to focus but it's clear enough
The weak run, the lost hide
The strong forever hold the flame inside

His arm felt so gentle around her shoulders, so strong. She instinctively leant against him, feeling inordinately safe, secure and for some strange reason, loved in his gentle embrace. It was a feeling that she hadn't felt before and she found herself wanting it to last. After a long moment she spoke softly.

"Thank you for bringing me here. It's a beautiful spot."

"Well, I've wanted to share it with someone special and I can't think of anyone that I would rather bring here than you." Kat let him speak, hearing the heart in his words. Kat looked at him and smiled warmly, his eyes meeting hers.

"You think I'm special?" Her heart was in her throat as she hoped against hope that he shared her feelings.

"Yes Kat. Since I first saw you I've always thought you were special. And since I've gotten to know you my feelings have grown for you." Kat looked deep into his eyes and could see his heart in his eyes. And she admitted to herself that her own feelings had grown for him as well. No time like the present to take the plunge she thought to herself. Here he was, baring his heart and soul practically to her and she felt that it is time to bare her own soul in return.

"The first time I saw you, you were so kind to me, so understanding that I immediately felt something for you. And as I've gotten to know you my feelings have deepened for you." Kat turned under his arm and faced him, her eyes locked with his. Kat's heart raced as she stared deep into his eyes. "And as I'm standing here today, with you, in such a beautiful and gorgeous spot I think I've finally realised something Bill." Billy looked at her and smiled gently at her.

"And what would that be Kat?" Kat smiled slightly as she cupped Billy's face in her hands.

"That today all my dreams are coming true." Billy gently pulled her close until their bodies were touching and their eyes were locked on each other. He slowly lowered his face towards hers.

"So are mine." He said gently and with that, their eyes closed and their lips touched as they shared a tender, gentle kiss.
