Tactics for the Tyranids:
These creatures typically serve one purpose, tie things up. Nothing better then assaulting a Wraith-Lord with these buggers, and taking it out of the game. The only drawback with these bugs is the cost. To get them to be useful you need to mutate them, which costs. Typically I do not field them, guants are better and offer more of a tactically advantage.
I have seen players field them with rending claws, and weapons. All is possible and makes them a bit more powerful, but the cost is still there.
Tactics against the Tyranids:
Again, Shoot them. Flamers and blast templates are the most effective against these bugs. Keep key units (Elites and HQs) away from them, Having your HQ tied up for even one round can be critical to you Army survival. Were there are ripper swarms, a Hive tyrant is not far behind ready to join the fray.
