The People's Summit on Globalization
(March 8-11, 2001 / Location: Boulder, Colorado)
The Coalition for Economic Justice, a diverse coalition of students and community organizers, presents 'The People's Summit on Globalization,' a conference to educate, empower and unite people striving for justice in the face of corporate globalization. This non-partisan conference aims to bring keynote speakers, panelists, community members, students, workers, educators and other global citizens to learn about the effects of economic globalization and to address the power structures that affect our world. Some of the keynote speakers include Dr. Vandana Shiva, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, Kevin Danaher of Global Exchange, and other leaders and workers in the struggle for justice.
All participants are invited free of charge.

"Seeking Sanctuary" by Bittu Sahgal: The fourteenth of a series of presentations on environment and development, with the common theme: SIGNS OF HOPE

The speaker will take about an hour for his presentation, and will be then available for an extended open discussion. There will be an exhibit and sale of organic food produce from around Pune and of Sanctuary and Kalpavriksh publications. Organised for the 20th anniversary of Kalpavriksh's formation, in collaboration with WWF-Pune, Parisar, CEE, and Ecological Society, Pune. These presentations will focus on the widespread, but often under-reported, work that communities, organisations, and individuals are doing to protect nature and natural resources, regenerate land and water, control pollution and ensure recycling, and establish responsible governance structures.

STUDENTS! Apply for the Geo Communities Semester - France, India, U.S. - The Geo Communities Semester, formerly known as Geocommons College Program, is a semester-long journey into ecology, community, and mindful living. After forming a "Learning Community" in New Hampshire, students and faculty spend ten days at Plum Village, Thich Nhat Hanh's Buddhist monastery in southern France; two months in India at Auroville in Tamil Nadu, an Ecovillage and spiritual community of 1500 people; and ten days at Mitraniketan, Kerala, a Gandhian community promoting village renewal. Re-entry to North America occurs at the Sirius Community in Massachusetts where students reflect upon and integrate their experience. Studying sustainable living practices, students come face to face with issues of world population, globalization, and habitat destruction as well as experience the joys of intercultural exchange, biological restoration, and mindfulness training. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive 12 semester credits through the University of New Hampshire's Department of Natural Resources. Seeds of Opportunity: The Future of Biotechnology in Agriculture
(May 31-June 1, 2001) Venue: Brunei Gallery, SOAS, Central London.
Hosted by the U.S. Embassy, the University of London, School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS), Queen Mary, the University of London, and the Royal Agricultural College. Two Nobel Laureates will speak at the conference: Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Price Winner and "Father of the Green Revolution" and Professor Sir Harold Kroto, Nobel Price Winner in Chemistry. The conference will be broken into three sections: (1) the consumer; (2) the environment; and (3) the developing world and pharming. To keep the speakers on their toes, commentary will be given at the end of each section by a distinguished journalist.
