A good weekend's work.
Herr Techmeister, holding a new CV joint...wading amongst the acres of new parts (note the new motor sitting to the right)
Installed 3/15-17, 2002:
2.0 litre ABA block with ~35,000mi from 1995 Jetta
Rebuilt  big-valve head with Hor 270 cam
Raceware head studs
New motor mounts, engine seals
radiator hoses, water pump

10.1" front brakes, ATE rotors, 22mm master cylinder
Prothane poly control arm bushings, new wheel bearings, ball joints
rebuilt shift linkage
Vaccum lines replaced again.
...and much more that I can't remember!

The old stock 1.8l RD engine, looking reasonably clean
I'm nuts, I think. Who else takes a perfectly good running car and jerks the engine out?
BACK
Yes, this is taken from under the car. Pretty much no going back at this point...oh shit!
Oooh, shiny new head!

The head and cam look brand-spankin' new.
The completed project. After Bob corrected my 'custom' plug wire setup (swapped #3 and 4, oops), it fired on the first try and has run great since.

MAJOR KUDOS go to:

BobReed, owner and Master Technician  of
Techmeister Import Services.
Simply put, this project could not and would not have taken place without his expert knowledge, massive amounts of sweat equity, and phenomenally well-equipped shop.

The fellow ABA swappers on
VWVortex.com. These crazy cats were invaulable sources of information and support...the swap went like clockwork thanks to their parts list and advice.
