For years many of us have considered ourselves to be spiritual seekers.  We have had a longing and a thirst to participate in the ritual and tradition that religion offers, but we have been unable to buy into the myths and dogmas most modern religions offer.  While we believe firmly in doing what we believe to be right, bettering ourselves, and serving others, we have been unable to accept a God who makes arbitrary rules and casts his children into hellfire and eternal damnation for failure to adhere to such.

Many of us believe the concept of sin to be outdated.  While much of it makes sense, much does not.  For example:  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you makes perfect sense.  However, not using certain words, not engaging in certain activities on holy days, or not allowing people with same -sex attraction to love each other seem outdated concepts that never had basis in reality to begin with.  Refraining from using obscenities in the presence of those who may be offended is a good decent thing as a personal decision.  But not using words considered to be obscene for the mere sake of not offending a vengeful, punishing God, who arbitrarily decided which words are good and which words are bad seems ridiculous at best.

That being said, we are people who believe in a Powerful, Loving, Higher Power.  Some of us have bounced from one religion to another.  Others among us may have abandoned religion altogether.  We tried to console ourselves with sayings like, Religious people are afraid of going to Hell, spiritual people have been there.  Yet, nothing could satiate our thirst for the belonging and ritual that traditional religion can offer.  Some of us held onto our childhood religions hoping to recapture the solace and truth we once enjoyed in our youthful naivet.  Alas, we could not indulge our thirst for spirituality at the expense of our own logic and intellect.

For a few of us the dilemma has become clear:  We are missing the structure and personal contact with The Great Mystery that most religion offers.  But we have realized that the dogma and fear mongering inherent in most major religions is not the work of a Loving Creator.

Many of us feel no connection to so-called modern religions which came forth on distant continents in ancient times.

It is time for a new spiritual movement, a modern religion, brought forth on the American continents in current times.  One which can provide us with ritual and objects of reverence, without mythical dogmas tied to them.  A religion which recognizes the importance of Personal Medicine without flying in the face of science.  Yet, where life doesnt cease to be miraculous because, through the gift of our intellect, we have come to understand previously mysterious workings.  A religion that honors and reveres myth for what it teaches us, but doesnt automatically accept such as historical fact or the ultimate authority.  One which views sin as hurting the whole - ultimately hurting the Self - The consequences of such being karmic, rather than imposed by a vengeful Overlord.

This new religion will incorporate some of the spiritual traditions brought forth on this, the North American continent, as we are inheritors of this land, regardless of where our ancestors came from.  This religion will also incorporate some the beautiful ritual of other religions, just as America incorporated  other customs and cultures and made them her own.

It is time for a new religion.  One where science and spirituality can coexist, not as opposites, but as one.  It is time for the PRISM.
