Screaming every waking moment
In tear-streaked desperation,
Dont leave me, dont leave me.
And your footsteps keep retreating
Into the blood-splashed horizon.
Your form an indistinct speck,
Abstract and intangible,
That which was once so familiar,
Increasingly remote
With my every heartbeat.
For a moment, I see you linger
At the edge of the horizon,
A brief transcendent instant,
Memories emblazoned in our minds,
Vividly etched in every nerve.
You, my lovely apparition,
Finally obscured by the heat waves,
As you cross the threshold
Into the misty netherworld,
Gone.
Despondently clinging to your scent
That wafts through the air.
Leaning over your footprints,
The last vestiges of your presence
In the shifting sands.
