Misconceptions and Confusions in Paleoanthropology (continued)
OH 5 a.k.a. Nutcracker Man a.k.a. Zinjanthropus a.k.a. Dear Boy belongs in the species Australopithecus robustus.
A. robustus is a southern African species, while OH 5 was discovered in the East African Olduvai Gorge in 1959. OH 5 is actually assigned to the species A. boisei or Paranthropus boisei.
Ramapithecus is the oldest human ancestor.
As of the early 1980s, the taxon Ramapithecus has been sunk into Sivapithecus, and it is currently regarded as a progenitor of the orangutan with no relation to hominid origins.
