The West Wing My Way
Chapter Ten
The day goes by quickly at Bartlet for America headquarters after Toby learned that Andrea was coming. As the primaries draw near, work kicks in to high gear, and the staffers hardly have a minute to wolf down lunch. Then they call it a day around eight o'clock that night, everyone is exhausted. CJ, Toby, Josh, Donna, and Sam end up in the small hotel lounge for dinner. Toby takes a long gulp of his beer before asking Josh to join him outside.
Once away from the others, Toby looks at Josh and clears his throat. "Hey, Josh, I need you to do me a favor." Josh can tell that what Toby's about to say is serious; Toby hates asking for favors. "Yeah, Toby, what is it?"
Toby rubs his forehead, and even Josh knows that that's a sign of the older man's frustration. "Josh, Andi's coming tomorrow." Josh's jaw drops and he has to remind himself to close his mouth. "Yeah. CJ needs a place to stay. There still aren't any damn rooms available, and she can't stay with Andi and me. I trust you, Josh, and so does CJ. I need you to let CJ stay with you while Andi's here."
Josh rubs his head, much like Toby did a moment ago. "Yeah, of course, Toby." Toby's relief is evident in his tone as he speaks. "Thanks a lot, Josh. I owe you one." Josh nods and heads back into the lounge. The two men join Sam and Donna at the bar, and Toby looks around to find CJ. She's at the jukebox selecting a song. Withint moments, a fairly familiar new song starts playing. CJ walks over to the table and sits down with a grin on her face. "I love 'The Jackal!'"

"Toby, are you here?" CJ sits her bad on the stairs and looks around her house for her roommate. He's been staying with her for a week now and still hasn't called his wife, unless he talked to her today. She finds him lounging in the shade around her pool with a half empty bottle of scotch beside him, and she knows instantly what's wrong. "Toby?"
He doesn't look up as he speaks, so she knows he's upset and more than a little drunk. "My candidate was a moron. I quit. I came out here to work for a guy who doesn't even know how to act like a Democrat!"
CJ walks over and grabs the scotch, putting the lid on as she speaks. "Toby, I'm sorry he's a moron, but you don't need to drink yourself into oblivion at six in the evening. Or ever, for that matter. You'll find another candidate who's worthy of your talent."
Toby laughs. "Whatever." She turns tlk walk back inside, but he grabs her hand. She turns to look at him, ready to ask what he wants, but he stands up and she forgets everything but the smell of his cologne and the scotch on his breath.
Before she knows what's happening, Toby's lips are on hers. CJ's first instinct is to back away, but as his tongue explores her mouth another reflex kicks in and she's kissing him back. The scotch mixed with the taste of cigars and his own unique taste drives all thoughts from her mind, and CJ melts into his embrace.
