| Toby sits next to CJ on the bed and looks at the floor as he speaks. "I didn't ell Andi that you were working on the campaign. So, she doesn't know that you're staying in my room." CJ stands up and towers over Toby. "You didn't tell her?! Toby, how could you not tell her that we're sharing a hotel room? Jesus, Toby! Your wife is coming over tomorrow and she probably thinks I'm sleeping with you!" Toby stands up suddenly when CJ says that Andi's coming. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| "Andi's coming tomorrow? Holy shit! She's gonna kill me! CJ, I didn't mean to not tell Andi, we just aren't really speaking at the moment. I haven't spoken to her since you joined the campaign. We have to find someone for you to stay with. Can you, like, not be mad at me for five seconds and help me think? Is there anyone else on the campaign you feel comfortable sharing a room with?" | ||||||||||||||||||||
| CJ looks at Toby. How can she be mad at him when he looks so pathetic? She thinks for a moment. She gets along with everyone involved in the Bartlet for America campaign--except Leo's assistant, Margaret, who scares CJ more than Leo scares Donna--but she can Josh get along really well. "I guess I could ask Josh if we could share." Toby looks relieved. Josh is a good man; he can trust him to share a room with CJ. "Okay. Thanks, CJ. Andi, I'm sorry about this." CJ grins at her best friend despite being extremely frustrated. "No problem, Toby. It's not your fault." | ||||||||||||||||||||

| CJ and Toby spent the rest of Andi's party sitting on the floor in the bathroom, drinking wine and talking. When all the guests were gone, she left Toby to deal with Andrea and promised to wait for him at the Lincoln Monument. He had called and accepted the job offer from the bathroom floor earlier and had bought a plane ticket, so all he had left to do was to pack and say goodbye to Andrea. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| CJ had only been waiting an hour when Toby climbs the steps. "Hey," is all CJ says. She wants to ask him how it went, but she can tell from the way he's standing and the way he's not looking at her that he doesn't want to talk about it. She stands up and walks down the steps next to him. "Hey," Toby replies. "The cab is waiting to take us to the airport. You ready?" Only Toby could be worried about someone else while he's leaving his entire life behind. "Yeah, Toby. I've got my stuff right here." She hold up her bag and points to her suitcase. "All right then, CJ. Let's go to California!" | ||||||||||||||||||||
| They walk over to the cab and ride to the airport in silence, both lost deep in thought. He's thinking about how easy it was to leave his wife to fly across the country with his best friend, and she's thinking about how hard it's gonna be to live with her best friend and know that he's still married. They both sleep on the plane, and don't speak until they reach her house the morning after the party. | ||||||||||||||||||||
