Here's John onstage with a big smile in the old Jungle Book unit during the Very Merry Christmas Parade. Hard to see his jeweled slippers with the pointy curled back toes!  One of my high school classmates, David Brashears, actually played Mowgli in this unit waaaaaay back in the 60's!
Look familiar?  Yep, it's the one and only original Main Street Electrical parade during it's "final" season.  Here's John bringing up the rear carrying the Blue Fairy's Train.
Would you give this guy your phone number?  This is the jester character John was playing when he was trying to attract my attention (see "Tall Tales").  This is the Sleeping Beauty unit's Crystal Castle float.  Along with the 3 good fairies and jesters, this was loaded with various court dancers, Aurora and Phillip and the ever lovely Maleficent (played by John Halsey!!!...see blonde pirate with beard on next page!!!)
shhhhhhhhh!!!  Go behind the scenes with the Disneyland Parade Department!

It takes character...
My husband John played a variety of characters in Disneyland parades over a period of nearly 20 years.  He's been both "head" characters (the familiar plush costumes) and face characters (where your own face is showing).  Now, he was doing this mostly for fun...he's made a living since the age of 15 as a scenic artist, painting various sets and props, building archetectural models and so forth.  But really, there aren't a lot of places in the states where you go to work with real characters...

Since John played so many different roles, I've still got a lot of scanning of other costumes to do.  More to come - stay tuned.
*o.k., so froggie isn't a Disney character b.f.d.!!!
