Chapter 20

The ladies dropped off the guys at the US House and then sped away to Park City where they were suppose to be three hours ago to watch the ski jumping competition. The guys went up to Rusty and Apolo's room and talked about last night.
"So someone got lucky last night?" Shani said smiling as he sat down on one of two seats that were in the room as Dan sat down on the other.
"What about it?" Rusty said as he flopped down on his bed.
"What's wrong with you?" Apolo said concerned about his friend.
"It's just something wasn't right when we said our good-byes in the car," Rusty said.
"Maybe she was dissappointed with you," Dan said laughing as the other guys started laughing with him. Then Rusty threw a pillow at Dan.
"No, it's not that," Rusty said. "I mean it seemed like she woke up as a different person.  She wasn't the happy, go lucky person from the night before."
"Maybe she's just not a morning person," Apolo said trying to stop laughing.
"Maybe," Rusty said. "So how abuot you Apolo? What happened when we all disappeared?"
"Nothing much happened," Apolo said shyly.
"Come on spill it Ohno," Shani said crossing his arms. "You know you want to start bragging."
"Well, there's really not that much to talk about," Apolo said crossing his arms. "We just kissed. I've only known her for a couple days. What more do you want from me? We're going to take things slowly unlike some people," Apolo said as they all stared at Rusty.
"What?" Rusty said trying to look innocent. "Anyway we got practice in an hour so we should start getting ready."
"Hey, man, don't change the subject," Dan said knowing what Rusty was trying to do.
"Look can we just drop it then," Rusty said getting a little annoyed.
"Why? Don't you want to brag about your one night stand?" Dan asked with an attitude.
"No, I'd rather not talk about it," Rusty shot back. "Oh, wait a minute...I know why you want me to tell all."
     "Why?"
     "Two words: You're jealous."
     "Why would I be jealous?"
"Because Karen doesn't show the least bit of interest in you like Lindsey shows me or Kylee shows Apolo."
"That's not true. I could care less about that."
     "Oh ya, I believe that."
"Hey guys time out," Apolo said intervening. "Look, we're going to be together for two and half weeks, so lets not let a bunch of girls interfere with our relationships on and off the ice, okay?"
"Whatever," Dan said stomping out of the room.
"Well, than," Shani said standing up stretching, feeling out of place. "I'm going to get ready for practice."
They all decided that was a good idea. They all went to their rooms and got ready for their first practice here at Salt Lake.  Eventhough their first race wasn't until Wednesday, four days away, they knew they had to practice if they wanted to win that gold in the relay. Apolo and Rusty also had to work on their individual races as well. So their was a lot to be done before Wednesday.
When they arrived at the Olympic Oval, they were rushed backstage to change into their practice uniform and then told what they needed to accomplish today.
"Okay, guys, we really need to improve on acceleration and starting, so that's what's going to be out focus for today," Coach Tony Goskowicz said. "Okay lets go out there and have a good practice."
The emerged from the locker room backstage onto the ice. As they were stepping out onto the ice, they saw the ladies getting ready for their practice.
"I thought they were suppose to be at Park City watching the ski events," Shani said to Apolo as they made laps around the rink, trying to get warmed up.
"Maybe they have to practice for tonight," Apolo said shrugging his shoulders as he continued skating.
Meanwhile, the volunteers had just laid down a large pat that covered almost the entire middle of the track.  The ladies, seeing that they were done, wakled over to the mat, slippping and sliding on the way.
"Okay ladies," Coach Lisa said. "Lets do the Larger than Life Routine. Ready? 5...6...7...8!"
The ladies danced right on cue. They nailed every kick, every shake, every move, and still kept a smile on their face.  That is, until they got to the second set of moves where two ladies in the back made a mistake.
"Okay, lets try this again from the top," Coach Lisa said. Coach Lisa was a perfectionist. Everything had to be perfect, especially the dance routines and especially this one because they had performed it so many times the ladies should have known it by heart, but they where still making little mistakes.
The guys watched the dancers as they restarted their routine.
"Come on guys," Coach Goskowicz said, bringing them back to reality. "I know it's hard, but try to focus on your skating."
"We'll try," Apolo said smiling as he skated away to practice on his accelerations.
