| Chapter 21 "Rusty, we need to talk," Lindsey said after practice was over. Something had been on her mind during the whole practice and if she didn't talk to Rusty about it, it would continue to bother her until she did. "Oh, okay," Rusty said zippering up his duffelbag. "Where do want to talk?" "Up in the stands is fine," Lindsey said. "That's fine," Rusty said looking back at the guys. "Hey you guys go on ahead, I'll catch up with you later." "Okay, laters," Apolo said tightening his blue bandana on his head. They left the locker room and went back out to the Oval up to the top row were they sat down in silence. Lindsey didn't know where to start. She had never been so nervous in her life. "About last night," Lindsey said clearing her throat. It felt like she had a huge lump in her throat. "What about it?" Rusty said cupping her hands gently. "Well, I've never had a one night stand before," Lindsey said quietly. "I mean I've been on dates, but never went all the way." "To tell you the truth, neither have I," Rusty said. "The reason why this is bothering me so much is because I have a reputation on the team as being the one that uses guys, which in some cases is true, but what we have is totally different from any of my past relationships. I like you a lot." "I like you a lot, too and I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize our realtionship." "Neither do I." "So what do you think we should do?" "I think maybe we should slow down a little and get to know each other." "That's a good idea. We are moving really fast." "Way too fast," Lindsey said smiling for the first time. "Well, lets go for a walk around the village." "Sounds great to me," Rusty said smiling also as he gave her kiss on the cheek. There was a coldness in the air. It felt like they had stepped into a freezer. Both Rusty and Lindsey zipped their jackets up all the way to their necks and then began their walk around the Olympic Village. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea," Lindsey said burying her hands into her jacket's pockets. "Lets go inside and grab a bite to eat," Rusty said seeing a restaurant in the Olympic Village. "Okay," Lindsey said as they walked into the restaurant. The restaurant was pretty busy. Waiters and waitresses shuffled qucikly from table to table taking orders and busboys tried to clear the empty tables as fast as they could. "Table for two?" a woman asked behind the counter as she grabbed two menus. "Yes, please," Lindsey said as they both followed her to a table next to a window that had a view of the street that led to the Olympic Oval. "Thanks." "This place is really busy," Rusty said when the woman left as he glanced at his menu. "Yeah, but I hear the food is really good here," Lindsey said smiling. "Really?" "Yeah, this is where they had a gathering of all the US coaches and my coach was one of them. She said it was so good." "Wow, you guys are getting treated like US Olympians. I mean, you get to stay in the US House, be involved in everything the athetes are in and even your coach is involved in all the coaching stuff." "The only thing is that we don't get medals for all the things we do. All this is volunteerly." "Who says I'm going to get a medal?" "Please, you are one of the best skaters on the short track team and you've been here before so you know how to handle all the pressure." "Yeah, but I'm not predicted to win anything, unlike Apolo who's predicted to wn four." "Do I hear some jealously?" "Maybe." "Look, Rusty, don't compare yourself to Apolo. Maybe Apolo is better than you, but he's not better then you at every event. You have some strengths, too. You're going to prove a lot of people wrong at this Olympics. I have this feeling you will. This is your time to shine. " "Will I know one thing he doesn't have?" "What's that?" "He doesn't have the most beautiful girl on the Dance USA team." "Yeah, he does." "No he doesn't." "Yeah, Kylee is the most beautiful. She's the best dancer. She's the most in shape. She's just so damn perfect." "Sounds like someone's jealous?" "It's just that I have been living in her shadow for so long. Some people don't even know that I am also a captain. Everyone assumes that only she is a captain. She has more responsibilites than I do, but we're both captains." "Well, like you told me, maybe this is your time to shine." This made Lindsey giggle a little. Listening to her own words was kind of strange, but it was true. "By the way, I think you're the most beautiful dancer on the team," Rusty said leaning over to kiss her.
