Chapter 15

After about thirty minutes of driving, they finally arrived at their destination.  Rusty and Lindsey were quietly making small talk in the middle of the seat while Karen and Dan were quietly wrapped up in each other's arms.  Shani and Crystal were laughing hysterically in the front seats while Kylee had fallen asleep on Apolo's shoulder.  He stroked her hand softly and he watched her sleep.  She looked so peaceful that when they stopped, he didn't want to wake her up, but he knew he had to.
"Hey, Kylee wake up," Apolo said shaking her gently.
Kylee slowly opened her eyes as she adjusted to the light that had just popped on in the car when Dan opened the sliding door.
"Wake up sleeping beauty," Crystal said from the front seat as she turned the engine off.
Kylee was the last one out of the van as she stumbled out, still trying to wake up from her nap.
"Do you need help?" Apolo said laughing quietly at the sight of Kylee stumbling all over herself as he put his arm around her waist to help support her.
"No, I'm fine, I just need to wake up," Kylee said, removing his arm from her waist as she started to have flashbacks of Ivan.
They walked down a couple of steps to the entrance of a log cabin.  Crystal unlocked the door and flipped on the light.
"So what do you all think?" Crystal asked as they guys stopped dead in their tracks with their jaws opened.
"This is sweet," Dan said as he and Shani ran for the couches and started to jump on it.
"Wow, is all I can say," Apolo said as he and Rusty joined the other guys on the couches.
The sight of four grown men jumping on the couches in the living was quite a sight to see.  The ladies were giggling so much they couldn't control it.  Who would have thought a log cabin would turn four men into little five year old boys?
"Are we having fun?" Crystal asked as she went to the kitchen and turned on the light.
"Tons," Shani said as they all finally stopped jumping on the couches and joined the ladies in the kitchen.
"How did you ever find a place like this? It must cost a fortune to stay here," Rusty said wrapping his arms around Lindsey.
"We got connections," Lindsey reassured him.  "Anyways...you guys hungry?"
"Always," Apolo said rubbing his stomach.
"Well, drink this while you're waiting for the food to warm up," Karen said throwing him a bottle of Strawberry Quik as Kylee turned on the oven to heat whatever was in the oven.
"Ever since that interview I did with Sports Illustrated I've been knee high in Strawberry Quik," Apolo said staring at the bottle.
"We know, it suppose to be a joke, peel off the label," Kylee said smiling as she and Karen got the salad ready.  Apolo did as he was told and underneath the label was a Sprite label.  He started laughing.
"Well, at least you guys don't think I drink it 24/7,"' Apolo said as he opened the can and took a sip.
"Do you all need any help?" Rusty asked sitting one of the barstools.
"No, we got everything under control.  Go and take a tour of the cabin," Lindsey suggested.  "The food will be ready in a little bit."
"Okay," Rusty said as they walked away from the kitchen back to the entry way. "I think we're gonna need a map of this place."
"I think you're right," Apolo said as they made their way down the hallway.
"Dang, four bedrooms and four bathrooms, this is like the rich and the famous houses we see on tv," Dan said as they  looked inside each of the rooms.  Each room had a king size bed, a dresser, two nightstands, a ceiling fan, and a walk in closet.  Each had its own distinct motif.  One bedroom was a girly type because it was painted a light pink with flowers decorating the room.  The next room was a victorian style room with sheer curtins decorating it.  The next room had a southwest design to it while the last room had an ocean theme.
The other side of the cabin was where the entertainment center was.  It had a pool table, an air hockey game, a couple of arcade games, a big screen television that was hooked up to Play Station 2, a DVD player, six lay-z-boys and a surround sound system that was every man's dream come true.
"Can we stay here instead of the Athlete's Village?" Shani asked as they stood their in awe of what they were seeing.
"Sorry, but we only have this cabin for tonight," Kylee said from behind them with a smile.  "The food is ready."
The made their way past the kitchen and into the dining room.
"Yum, smells like down home cooking," Rusty said in a southern accent as he took a seat by Lindsey at the dining table that was loaded with food.  There were flat noodles, chicken parmesan, mixed vegetables, scalloped potatoes, and a side salad with every salad dressing imaginable.
"Do you think we have enough salad dressing?" Shani asked looking at the many bottles of salad dressing on the table as he sat next to Crystal.
"Well, we didn't know what you guys liked so we got a big variety," Crystal explained as she drowned her small salad in French dressing.
"Crystal, what's the point of eating a salad if you're going to put so much dressing on it?" Kylee asked as Apolo passed her the bowl of potatoes.
"The way I look at it is dressing is what seperates a salad from rabbit food," Crystal said as everyone laughed.
"This is so delicious," Dan said eating like he's never eatten in a couple of days.
"Well, we're glad you like it," Kylee said smiling.
The rest of the night was full of getting to know each other better. The guys talked about their hopes of a medal while the ladies talked about their hopes for a medal at the World Dance Championships, especially since lat year they were just one spot away from a medal; they had gotten fourth place. They laughed, cried, and laughed more as the night went on. It felt as if they had been best friends all along.
When they were done, the guys offered to do the dishes, which the ladies didn't mind at all. It was hilarious watching them do the dishes.  Rusty was doing the dished that weren't allowed to go into the dishwasher while Dan was drying them.  Apolo was prerinising the dishes as Shani put them in the dishwasher.  As they were doing this, they were singing "Whistle While You Work" in many different music styles; opera, rap, r&b, pop, a soft rock, and of course the original version.  When they completed the dishes they all went to sit on the deck.
"It's so peaceful out here," Apolo said staring into the darkness.
"I know," Kylee said all bundled up in her large jacket as she leaned over the railing.
"Look at the time," Crystal said looking at her watch. "It's almost 3 in the morning."
"I guess we better get some sleep, we have a big day tomorrow," Karen said yawning.
"What do you guys have to do tomorrow?" Dan asked.
"We have to attend like a thousand events and then preform before the pairs skating event and then preform at the Medals Plaza," Lindsey explained almost out of breath.
"Come on Karen, lets get some sleep," Crystal said dragging Karen in the cabin.
"Good night," Karen managed to say before she disappeared behind the curtain.
"Well, I guess we gotta get to bed to," Rusty said stretching.
"Want some company?" Lindsey asked getting closer to him.
"Sure, especially if it's you," Rusty said smiling as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Get a room," Shani said jokingly.
"Fine," Rusty said picking Lindsey up.
"Hey, Kylee, you coming to bed," Lindsey said in Rusty's arm.
"Not with you guys," Kylee said smiling.  "Actually I'm going to stay out here a few more minutes."
"Suit yourself," Lindsey said as she turned to face Rusty.  "Take me away Prince Charming." Lindsey said as they both disappeared behind the curtain.
"Wonder what they will be doing tonight?" Shani said smiling. "Well anyway, I'm off to bed."
"Me, too," Dan said. "You coming Apolo?"
"Nah, you guys go one ahead, I'm going to keep Kylee company," Apolo said turning toward Kylee. "If that's okay with you?"
"It's fine with me," Kylee said with a shy smile.
"Well good night and don't let the bed bugs bite," Shani said as he and Dan went in the cabin.
Now it was only Kylee, Apolo, the darkness that surrounded them, and Kylee's heart pounding like crazy.
