| Chapter 14 The United States team had just entered the stadium and the roar of the crowd let the ladies now that it was almost time to perform. They got onto five circular platforms that were going to glide them onto the ice and into the center of the stadium. "Remember ladies to have fun out there," Coach Lisa said doing some last minute fixes on the ladies. "Easy for you to say because you don't have to perform in front of the many people out there," Kylee said with butterflies in her stomach. "Dance USA, you're up," a guy with headphones said as the platforms started to move and the dancers got into their starting positions. The stadium lights were turned off then five spotlights were put on the five platforms. Then, with a bang, the music started and they started dancing right on cue and everyone in the stadium leaped to their feet. The song they chose was "Rhythm Nation" by Janet Jackson. It was the perfect song to show what kind of state the country was in right now, five months after Spetmeber eleventh. Up in the stands the short track team had just gotten into their spots when the dancers came out. As with the rest of the stadium, they, too started dancing and letting loose. "They are so hot out there," Apolo said to Rusty who was right next to him. "I know, they bring down the house," Rusty said continuing to dance. "Look, there's Lindsey." "And there's Kylee," Apolo said finally locating her. They started waving their arms like crazy to try and get the ladies to notice them. Back in the center of the stadium, Kylee had just turned around to where the athletes were seated. When she looked over to the USA Team, all she saw was a sea of dark blue. She squinted to make out some of the athletes faces, but she couldn't tell one athlete from another in that sea up in the stands. As she looked around, she realized how lucky she was. She was performing in the Olympics in front of the home crowd. This was a once in a lifetime oppertunity and she was living out many people's dreams. She didn't want this dream to end. When the music stopped, the platforms rolled off the ice and the next act came on. The stadium sat back down, but their cheering could still be heard backstage. The ladies waited backstage until the end of the ceremonies. When the ceremonies ended, there was a mad rush out of the stadium as the athletes made their way back to the buses so they could go back to the athlete's village. "Hey strangers," Kylee said as they walked up behind the guys. "Hey, you guys were great tonight," Rusty said putting his arm around Lindsey. "You guys ready for tonight?" Lindsey asked. "We've been ready all day," Shani said excitedly. "Well, I hope you don't mind if we kidnap you all," Karen said leading the way to a van. "We don't mind at all," Dan said smiling at her as they all filed into the van. "Buckle up, it's going to be a long ride," Crystal said from the drivers seat as the van drove into the darkness of Utah. Chapter 15 Never Had a Dream Come True Homepage Home |
