| Chapter 11 "It looks like someone likes someone," Lindsey said smiling at Kylee as they walked towards practice. "What are you talking about?" Kylee said trying to sound clueless. "Please, girl," Karen said. "They way Apolo talked you and then put his arm around you. He was totally flirting with you." "No, he wasn't," Kylee said trying to defend herself, eventhough she knew they were right. "Maybe he is a touchy, feely guy." "Then why did he put his arm around you only?" Crystal asked. "He could've put his arm around Karen, who was sitting on the other side of him, but he chose you instead." "Would you guys stop it," Kylee said getting frustrated. "You guys are being rediculous." "Wait a minute," Karen said, a light bulb going off in her head. "Is this about your ex?" This triggered Kylee's memory. She started having flashbacks from that night when her ex-boyfriend, Ivan, told her he wasn't ready for a committed relationship. "Look I know we have been going out for two years, but I don't think I'm ready for this," Ivan said as they sat on the couch in his parents' house. "I'm not ready for a commitment." "Then why were we together for two years?" Kylee said not knowing whether to cry or to be angry. "Was this just little fling? Is there someone else? Please tell me what's going on. I need to know." "It's nothing you did, Kylee. It's all me. I don't want to hurt you so that's why we have to break up." "So that's the reason, you don't want to hurt me?" "Pretty much. I'm so sorry, but I'm afraid that I'm going to hurt you. Like I said, it has nothing to do with you. You did nothing wrong. This is all because of me." She hated those words because it was such a lie. He was so convincing, telling her it was becuse he wasn't ready for a commited relationship. It was his fault, not her's. About four days after the break up, she found out through friends that he started dating another girl, Laura. Laura and him were good friends, but nothing more than that, until now. Now Kylee new the real reason for their break up. It was because he wanted to get closer to Laura. To make things even worst, they got engaged on their five month anniversary. This crushed Kylee. Since the break up her guard was up. She didn't let any guy get too close to her and she didn't let herself get too close to any guys. It had been a year since the break up, but she still had some emotional scares that hadn't quite healed yet, quite possibly would never heal. Was she ready to date again? Was she ready to give her heart to another guy? "Hello? Earth to Kylee?" Karen said seeing that Kylee's mind had wondered off. "Oh, sorry," Kylee said coming back to reality. "It is about your ex isn't it," Karen said stopping her so they could sit down on a ledge. "Look, Kylee it's been a year." "I know, but it still hurts," Kylee said starting to tear up. "I know it still hurts, but it's time to move on," Crystal said putting her arm around her trying to comfort her. "I mean you know how many guys wanted to go out with you since the break, but you let them go. Come on, do me favor? Don't let this one go. He's perfect for you." "We think you're ready, I mean Ivan has moved on so you should too," Lindsey said squatting to be eye level with Kylee. "If you don't move on, you're letting him know that he's won and I know you don't like it when you don't win." "Yeah, I know," Kylee said wipping her tears. "With him, I thought all my dreams were going to come true. Then when we broke up, I felt as though they were never going to come true." "Well, maybe Apolo will make all your dreams come true," Lindsey said. "and if tries to hurt you, we'll be there to kick his ass." "You guys are the best friends anyone could have," Kylee said hugging them as she smiled. "Come on, lets get to practice," Karen said as they all stood up and started walking towards practice again.
