Cimorene bids a tearful farewell to her dear friends Justinian and Marreant, and gets into an argument with her brother over whether or not she should really go. Along the way, she enraptures a young Gondorian knight named Ipal, who now swears to love her forever. The King gives his blessing to have Ipal go with Cimorene. Ulrich the Green invites himself along as well, and now the three prepare to depart!
