Chapter 1
"Wake up Kayla, it's time for school." Kayla Simms got out of her bed for her last day of school, FINALLY! She was a senior, and because of her outstanding grades and more that enough required credits, she didn't have to attend the second semester of her senior year.  Kayla liked school and all, but it was just getting old. She was 17 years old and she just wanted to finish the same old routine (school) as soon as possible. The routine of waking up and going to school wasn't the problem; the looks and the whispers behind her back were what Kayla dreaded having to face while at school. She knew she could be brave only for so long.

Kaylas real name was Mackayla Simms, but nobody called her that other than her step-mother.  She had  just turned 17 three weeks ago, and she was a senior in high school only because she skipped 4th grade. Kayla had one real sister, Nikki, and one step sister, Brittney, who lived with her at home. Her other real sister, Lizzie, lived with her husband and  4 year old daughter, Gianna, about 20 minutes away.  Kayla loved her sisters, but they ususally were caught up in their own lives to worry about her or include her in their plans.   She understood Lizzy's hectic life, but her other sisters were close to her age and they still never took the time to see how she was, or ask her if she wanted to do something with them. And they lived in the same house! She was usually the one left out.

When Kayla looked into the mirror she suddenly remembered why she wanted to finish school. Kayla was just lonely. She really only had 2 close friends and the rest of her friends came to her only for their problems. She also wanted more out of life. Kayla was a 17 year old girl who had never had a boyfriend. She wanted someone to care about her and not the way her family suposedly did. Nighttime was the worst. Sometimes she would hug her pillow and pretend that it was someone who really truly cared about her. Someone to make her feel better when she was upset and hug her and soothe her when she was sad and alone.

Kayla  was about 56 and had brown hair and green eyes, but she was pretty shy and very self concious of her body cause it wasn't perfect.  A lot of people in school considered her either a friend, the smart girl in the corner of the class, or just never considered her. The popular people didnt like her and that hurt because Kayla never did anything to them. They made fun of her to her face, but she had already known how they felt about her because they had never truly accepted her in the first place.

Her friends would tell you she was a sweet girl who always had time to listen to you; her family would tell you that Kayla was a good person and just wanted to see things go right. Kayla would tell you that all she wanted to be was happy. Happy like all the other 17 year old girls who had nothing to worry about. She had moved around a lot and becuase of her shyness, she really never had anyone to turn to. And now that she lives  here in Greensville, Florida, her best friends Sarah and Emilee were the only ones who would try to under stand her and her ways.  All Kayla wanted was to find that special someone she had read about in the many romance novels. Someone  who would be the other half of her. A man who would love her for her; faults of personality and apperence accepted and loved any way.

You dont have the time to think about this, just get ready, Kayla thought to her self and did just that. She put on her express jeans and a black button down, quarter length, shirt and curled her hair. She was off to school.
