Same Sex Marriage Study
As a graduate student at the Smith College School for Social Work, I am writing my Master’s thesis on the experiences of GLBTQ individuals who have legally married their same-sex partners in Massachusetts. f you know anyone involved in your community who might be interested in participating in my study or who might know of others who could be interested, please forward this information to them. I will be conducting my final interviews during the next 3 weeks. Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the study and interested in participating can contact me by email or phone.

Love and Sex in Cyberspace. With the exploding popularity of sex-focused web- sites, will meeting in person take a back seat when it comes to finding sex partners? Is the ease of online access fueling the private sex party circuit and increasing HIV transmissions among gay and bi men? Recent studies have shown that STD rates are rising among men who have sex with men: how much of this increase in STDs may be a result of finding sex partners online? And finally, although cyberspace can connect us to a countless number of men, does online socialization actually lead to greater isolation for gay/bi men? Come discuss your views on the pros and cons to hooking up online versus meeting men in person. At Club Café, 209 Columbus Ave, Boston, from 7-9pm.

Wilderness Heals - Interested in hiking? Want to get into the great outdoors AND raise money for women in crisis? Wilderness Heals is a three-day hike (June 18-21) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to raise money for The Elizabeth Stone House (www.elizabethstone.org), a women's shelter and alternative mental health program. There will be three groups (organized into teams of 4-6) hiking in and around Presidential Range and sleeping at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s huts (hot dinner, hot breakfast, warm bunks!) This is a challenging hike, but you don’t need any hiking experience to participate. In fact, each year the hike attracts and includes women who’ve never walked on anything but pavement. Wilderness Heals will provide training and support: hikers receive information packets, assistance with training (there are training hikes starting in April and continuing throughout the spring) and fundraising from previous hikers, experienced hike leaders and the staff of the Stone House. You don’t need to be a mountaineer! or even an athlete to do this hike: all you need to be is willing.

To register or to find out more about Wilderness Heals and the Elizabeth Stone House, please call Danielle Piscatelli 617-427-9801 x415, or visit the Stone House’s website at  http://www.elizabethstonehouse.org.

Stop Smoking - Dear Friends
I am currently working on a project that will help the LGBT community address certain health issues and empower them to live healthier lives. For these reasons, I am asking for your help. The goal of our project, through group cessation, is to generate and incubate new tobacco interventions that show potential for higher quit rates than most interventions, ultimately helping people quit smoking. The session offers a friendly, supportive environment for GLBT and friends of GLBT smokers, including counseling, and a stipend for participation. If you ever known someone who smokes, you know that it’s a hard habit to kick. So we’re here to help. If you have any questions about the project or would like to how you can help these groups form, please contact me at 617.927.6400 Ext 6039.

Support Gay Marriage and Tell your Story - I have created a website for gay and lesbian couples to tell their story. A place where a couple can tell the world about their own relationship and put a face on the issue of gay marriage. The hope is that there are enough people out there with open minds that will read and learn about gay couples and how a constitutional amendment would affect them. Please visit my website and help me get started by telling your story. Once I have a few posted I will start to really promote it but I need a few to get the ball rolling.

Thanks for your help and please send me as much feedback on the site as you can as well.

BLAB Girls Bike Rides - Everyone is welcome to join. The emphasis is on FUN (and cycling, of course). We never leave any rider behind, and new members show up with
all varieties of bikes. Our rides always consist of a social time (during or after) - we might stop for ice cream or a swim in the summer, or in the fall, we just have to get to a farm stand for apple cider donuts or caramel apples :)
