LEBANON ENTERPRISE, 8/8/2001 RONALD KEVIN HOURIGAN, 35 Ronald Kevin Hourigan, 35, Fort Pierce, Fla., died at 10am August 5, 2001, at his residence. Born March 4, 1966, in Marion County, Hourigan was a construction worker for Dickerson Construction Company in Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Dee Hourigan on March 15, 1992. Survivors include: his mother, Rebecca Ann Leffew Hourigan of Lebanon; maternal grandmother, Mattie Bedford of Lawrenceburg; a special friend, Brenda Gail Curry of Fort Pierce, Fla.; four sons, Christopher, Brandon and Ronald Kevin Hourigan, Jr., all of Sheperdsville, and Joshua Hourigan of Lebanon; two brothers, Franklin Davis Hourigan of Many, La., and twin brother, Donald Keith Hourigan of Broken Bow, Okla.; a sister, Angela D. Rakes of Lebanon; four nieces; two nephews; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held August 9 at Bosley Funeral Home with burial in Ryder Cemetery. Rev. Arnold Lee officiated. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the family for funeral expenses. Active pallbearers were Mike and Terry Bedford, Robert Hodgen, David Hourigan, Todd Carpenter and Larry Hourigan, Jr. Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of the arrangements. |

JOSEPH LINGLE WHITEHOUSE, 96 Died 8/22/2003 Joseph Lingle Whitehouse, 96, a retired service station owner, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at his residence. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity. Joseph Lingle Whitehouse was born Feb. 25, 1907, in Gravel Switch, Ky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Malissa Dalyce Vance, Sept. 21, 1987. Survivors: Son, Col. Larry Whitehouse, USAF (ret.), and his wife, Moira, of Benbrook; brother, James Rufus Whitehouse Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Durward Preston Brown, Died 1/29/2004 Marshall Funeral Home, Alva and Waynoka, Oklahoma Durward Preston Brown was born May 26th, 1914, and died January 29th, 2004, at Share Medical Center, Alva, four months shy of his 90th birthday. Mr. Brown was born at the family home in rural Beaver County, Oklahoma, near Slapout to James Preston Brown and Ella Hagan Brown. He attended the early grades at Overstreet School near Slapout and at Amarillo and Follett, Texas before graduating from high school at Laverne, Oklahoma in 1933. Durward attended college at Northwestern Normal School, now NWOSU, from 1934 to1938 graduating with a teaching degree. In 1938 he married Jadeena Leeper and moved to Greenfield, Oklahoma to begin his teaching career and establish a home. Durward taught school in Cherokee and other locations in Oklahoma and Kansas before moving to a farm near Dacoma, Oklahoma in 1947. While living on the farm, Durward taught in Waynoka and then moved into the Alva school system where he taught and coached for many years. Durward has lived in Alva for the past 44 years. During his teaching and coaching career Durward coached Alva's AAU State Track Team for many years producing dozens of state and nationally recognized athletes. Some of his favorite and most vivid memories were of his students and the young athletes on his track teams. He was honored for his coaching dedication with a special award from the Alva Kiwanis Club. After retiring from teaching Durward began spending his days meticulously restoring antique cars. Over the years he restored over 30 cars that range from 1920's Fords to 1950's Studebakers. His thoroughness and attention to accuracy earned him numerous best-of-show awards and a prestigious second place at the National Model A Competition. Durward was a member of the Northwest Antique Car Club, the Wichita Model A Club, the Wichita Horseless Carriage Club and The Tulsa Chapter of the Studebaker Club of America. His love of old cars led him to countless car shows, rallies, flea markets and parades where he met and made many lifelong friends. Durward was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on many committees over the years and was a founding member of the Homebuilder's Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and a longstanding member of the NWOSU Homecoming Committee. Durward furnished cars for the school's homecoming parade for the last 30 years. Mr. Brown was honored by NWOSU as an Outstanding Graduate and as Homecoming Parade Marshall. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Jadeena; one daughter, Melba Richey and her husband Jim of Alva; two sisters, Loneta Dockry of Oceanside, California and Lela McGuire of Laverne, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Steve Richey and wife Lori of Wichita, Kansas, and Stephanie Coon and husband Robert of Tulsa; five great-grandchildren, Preston, Colleen and Brittan Richey and Katie and Jack Coon; several very special nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Rusaw Brown, of Alva. Memorial services for Durward Brown will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Alva on Monday, February 2nd, 1:00 p.m. with Weegie Williams, Pastor, presiding. A private family burial at the Alva Cemetery will precede the Memorial Service. Arrangements are with Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Methodist Church Stained Glass Restoration Fund or the Methodist Church Music Department.
