Why is it such an important issue?
Animal endangerment isn't only about caring for animals and ensuring their survival in the wild, we too can be affected by the costs of animal endangerment. All animals and plants are a part of an ecosystem, a web. Once one species dies out, the population of another flourishes and possibly another species dies out as well. Scientists have found that an imbalance in the ecosystem can cause the populations of disease-carrying animals to increase. The recent SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak throghout east Asia could have been traced down to the civet cat sold in the markets of Southern China where inhumane killing of anmals is frequent and and where there is a higher risk of diseased meat.
