According to the locals, there is an old house in Donaghadee from which you can see the kingdoms of Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales on a clear day.

The
Association for the Promotion of Research in British Isles History is a creative space not unlike that house.

We promote research that crosses modern political boundaries without hesitation, teasing out the strands of Welsh or English or Manx history, but never losing sight of their British Isles context.

And we are not alone in enjoying this particular viewpoint. In politics, there is the
British-Irish Council, an institution with delegates reresenting all of the political entities of the British Isles, working together to develop all areas of mutual interest.

We have also been inspired by the writings of philosopher
Richard Kearney and political analyst Simon Partridge, the theorists behind the BIC, and by the historical research of professor Hugh Kearney, all of whom promote an inclusive, trans-islands perspective.

Anyone involved in historical research on any part of British Isles history is welcome in this association.

Our house is your house.
