| so close she comes to nod at us through murky haze our earthly ways Red Planet now gathered here all gazers throng and take their turn at looking long eyes lifted and in the riddle of the night we watch the orange tinted light traverse her arc some clouds hold sway then drift away she comes that which we glimpse in outer space opens within a wonder-place of womb-like shape wherein is sown seeds of the mystery all our own as eyes are lifted to the sky and she becomes a passer-by may what began in wonder-storm be nourished, grow, find shape and form may wonder-spaces rise like bread and fill the heart, confound the head a gift from the creator hand delivered by Mars and wrapped with stars Jennie Gordon 2003 |
