Mars
so close she comes
to nod at us
through murky haze
our earthly ways
Red Planet

now gathered here
all gazers throng
and take their turn
at looking long
eyes lifted

and in the riddle of the night
we watch the orange tinted light
traverse her arc
some clouds hold sway
then drift away
she comes

that which we glimpse
in outer space
opens within
a wonder-place

of womb-like shape
wherein is sown
seeds of the mystery
all our own

as eyes are lifted to the sky
and she becomes a passer-by
may what began
in wonder-storm
be nourished, grow,
find shape and form

may wonder-spaces
rise like bread
and fill the heart,
confound the head

a gift
from the creator
hand delivered
by Mars
and wrapped with stars
