General Eisenhower would demonstrate the art of leadership with a piece of string. He'd put it on a table and say: "PULL it and it will follow wherever you wish. PUSH it and it will go nowhere at all. It's just that way when it comes to leading people. They need to follow a person who is leading by example."
Hurry sickness has been around at least since Jesus' day. Mark tells us that on one occasion, "many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat." Like Jesus, who regularly took time out from His busy ministry, we must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from our lives. To all of us he says, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest" (Mk 6:31).

Character is the fundamental attribute of all great leaders. It's more important than anything else. Competence is important, certainly, but if you had to sacrifice one, you would give up competence before character. Character is everything.
