As Christians, we are charged with a very specific and important mission: we need to bring Jesus to the world. Mission: Impossible? I think not… Mission: Important? Definitely. This mission seems huge, doesn't it? Bring Jesus to the world, that's a lot to do. It sounds sort of like the beginning of a huge adventure, like sailing around the world or climbing Mount Everest, and it is the beginning of an adventure, except we didn't start it. The adventure started about two thousand years ago, we're jumping into it in the middle. Think about it. How many people, how many Christians, have come before us and have done mission work? How many people have dedicated their lives to this mission? I don't know about you, but I can't count that high. Bringing Jesus to the world, one piece, one person, at a time, now that's a more manageable mission. I think that's a better mission statement. Think of joining the mission as joining the crew of that ship sailing around the world. Jesus is the captain, he directs the crew. The crew makes sure the boat is sea-worthy and keeps the ship off of the rocks; the crew (that's us) keeps the mission going. But if there's no wind, that ship isn't going to go very far, is it? That's why God is in charge of providing the wind. God moves the mission forward through us. God provides the energy to do mission work. But don't take my word for it: "Have I not commanded you: Be strong and courageous? For the Lord your God goes with you wherever you go." [Joshua 1:9]
