The file is not that big, and it contains drivers for most everything. I did not take the time to find exact driver files. I figured if anyone is having trouble with your Presario 2120 drivers, this could help you. All you have to do is remove the troubled device from your device manager (click on start, setting, control panel, system), restart your computer, it should find an unknown device, it will search your A drive for a driver. The next screen will have a button called other location. Click and browse to the directory where you extracted the inf.zip file. The ok button should become enabled, click ok and the computer should do the rest. I am not making any guarantees, but it worked for me. This file only contains drivers that came with your Presario 2120. Open the *.exe install it then reboot, Windows will detect an unknown monitor and built a driver database. After Widows finishes loading right click on the desktop and open properties goto the settings tab were it lists unkown monitor click change. Scroll down the list of manufactuters and select Compaq. This is a 'home made' driver taking the required files one at a time from a configured Compaq PC and copying them to the new PC. WARNING contains Operating System specific files such as VMM32.VXD so only install it on a win98 PC, may only work with Win98SE - I don't know. Will probably mangle win95 if you try it on there. PS - you may be asked to find a .cat file twice - hitting 'skip file' the second time seems to work OK - it's the same file it asks for first time anyway. I also saw it work on a Presario 42xx (if I remember the model number correctly). I originally posted a link for it, but it was broken within a month or so, and I started to receive a steady flow of letters at my primary address. Well, here's the driver finally available for download. A few notes is that those who bought those Compaq PCs should never do it again, for the very simple reason that they have no tech support at all (I was not able to get this from their tech support or get ANY answer from them for weeks at all). A manufacturer who doesn't even provide any tecnical specifications for its own PCs' hardware and doesn't provide decent tech support should be boycotted. Their service is also awful. You should also get yourself a decent, real hardware PCMCIA or ISA/PCI modem, so that you avoid driver-searching problems in the future. REAL modems also work with anything without any problems or drivers, they don't take up any stupid DMA or I/O address and don't waste CPU resources. So it really is worth the cost, especially if you plan to use a decent Unix OS or BeOS or whichever good OS there is. The Compaq Presario 1635 notebook actually has a LUCENT WIN MODEM (LT Win Modem) installed. I spend hours trying to find this fact out. Compaq support was a joke. Download this file, double click it (this extracts the files). Copy the DIR Pshiels (containing 7 files) to a floppy disk (A \). Go into 'Control Panel', select 'Modem', select 'Add', you don't want the computer to search for the modem, so select 'No', select the modem icon, check the box 'don't detect my modem I will select it from a list', scroll down and select 'LUCENT' on the left hand side and 'LT Win Modem on the right', click on 'have disk', click on 'browse', click on DIR 'Pshiels', and then select 'okay', then select 'comm 2' (or possibly comm 3 if you are having problems - but comm 2 worked for me), and click okay. Rebot your system. You may have to go into your 'setting' in you IExplorer (and any E-Mail accounts and specify this particular modem). Any problems drop me a line. That's is what I have. To check what type of motherboard you have open up your pc and just look for a chip that is one inch by one inch it it should tell you the manufacturer. But this really works. *This is a AGP driver.* And the full name is intergraded 2x AGP 3D graphics card. To install-go to control panel-click on Systems-click on Device Manager.Click on Video adapters-It should say something like (standard VGA)highlight it then press properties-Then click on drivers-Then update driver. I had tried downloading this from Driverguide as well as from Compaq and ESS Technology and none of them worked. I finally found this zip file on another Presario 4540 in which the sound card worked. I transferred the file to my ailing 4540 and it works perfectly now. I have only tested this for Windows 95, but I think it will likely work with Windows 98 as well.
