Andy Cole was on the scoresheet first after only 4 minutes after a Gillespie cross was failed to be headed away, leaving Cole to scramble the ball into the net. Chelsea however hit back in the 6th minute as Petit's long forward ball was taken down by Hasslebiank and smacked past the helpless Friedle. In the second half Chelsea looked on top and Petit took Chelsea into the lead with a stunning freekick. Blackburn however came back just before the end as Duff's cross was met by the sliding Jansen at the front post making the final score 2-2. Charlton vs Bolton Bolton picked up their second point of the campaign as they achieved a draw away to Charlotn who were in 9th place after a good start to the 02/02 season. Bolton however almost got all three points as a cross from Ricardo Gardner was misjudged by Kiely who had to tip it onto the bar. Charlton brought on Stuart in the 57th minute for the injured Robinson but failed to make an impact. Robinson will be out for 3 weeks acording to Charlton's physio. Man City vs Southampton Debutant Stephen Carr, recently moving from Spurs played a stunner for Southampton at right wing back alongside Wayne Bridge on the left. Both of them caused havoc on the City defence. It payed off after 21 minutes when a darting run from Carr allowed him to swing a ball in for Fernandes to volley into the net. Man City came back slightly in the second half but Southampton's defence paid off and they got all 3 points, 0-1. Everton vs West Ham Everton's captaoin, Thomas Gravesen was forced to leave the pitch after just 13 minutes due to a calf injury. Pembridge, who replaced him created a chance soon after but Campbell blasted the ball over the bar. West Ham however took the lead after 31 minutes when Lomas' simple ball set Cole up for a stunning goal in which he darted past Gemill and Pistone before a cool finish, chipping the onrushing keeper. Sinclair then made it too as he headed in a cross from Joe Cole in the 66th minute. Fulham vs Newcastle Shearer opened the scoring as a well worked through ball from Solano put him one on one with Van Der Sar. Shearer confidently took it wide and chipped the ball into the top left hand corner from a fairly tight angle. The home side however came back as Melville headed in a corner in the 65th minute. Man Utd vs WBA Van Nistlerooy took his goalscoring tally to 4 in 3 games after 15 minutes as Giggs well worked pass left an open goal for Nistelrooy to tap in. Forlan then made in two seven minutes later when Beckham swong a freekick in and Forlan finished at the far post after poor defensive work from WBA. The final score was 2-0. Sunderland vs Arsenal Last season's champions, Arsenal haven't had an ideal start to the season and needed 3 points here. However it looked unlikly after on form Phillips netted a corner from McCann. Sunderland then sat back and stopped Henry from scoring as he chipped the keeper only so Gray could clear it off the line. Arsenal however did pull one back in the 44th minute when Campbell headed a corner into the back of the net. Tottenham vs Liverpool Tottenham have had a great start to the season but it looked like luck wasn't with them when defender Ledley King was carried off the pitch with a knee injury, King will miss the next 4 weeks stated Jez Waz after the game. Liverpool however failed to capitalize on Tottenham's misfortune and the game ended 0-0. |
