RIM OWNED LAND IN CAMBRIDGE - FUTURE PREDS HOME?

On May 19th in the KW Record, it was reported that RIM had purchased a large plot of land in Cambridge for $3.8 million on February 16th from home builder Mattamy (Galt) Ltd.

The large piece of land is 26 acres and just 5 minutes from Canada's busiest highway, the 401. Also, the specific area of Waterloo Region, near North Waterloo, is the fastest growing sector in all of Canada. Both industry and housing has more than tripled in the past 5 years.

Another convience is that this area is 82 kilometres away from Toronto. Which just so happens to be outside of the NHL's distance rules by 2 kms.

Though major sporting arenas take 2-3 years to build, it is widely believed that the recent announcement of Mr. Balsillie's agreement to use Copps Coliseum in Hamilton would be a temporary stay while the land in Cambridge is being developed as the future home of the Predators.

Take a look at the location on the map down below!

Welcome to the official campaign page for the Preds to K-W campaign. We believe that the residents of Kitchener-Waterloo would support an NHL team of their own and have developed this page to give you updated campaign information as the time progresses!

NASHVILLE PREDATORS SOLD TO JIM BALSILLI
E

On Thursday May 24th 2007 it was confirmed that Nashville Predators owner Craig Leipold had an agreement in place to sell the Predators to Canadian business man, co-CEO of RIM, and Waterloo Ontario's own Jim Balsillie.
After years upon years of loosing millions and millions of dollars in a poor hockey market such as Nashville, Mr. Leipold gave up. Though he shares an intense love of hockey with his family, it just wasn't justifiable for him to put a great amount of passion and money into the team anymore because clearly the residents of Nashville didn't care.
Mr. Balsillie, a native of Waterloo has shown that he is a great business man, taking RIM to the top of the communications industry (RIM is the creator of the Blackberry handheld device). He also shares a strong love for hockey and has the know how and direction for the Predators.
