Websters definition of peace: A state of tranquillity or quiet, (tranquil = free from agitation, disturbance or turmoil, steady, stable); freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions.
Bibically: Peace equals wholeness, completeness, soundness, well being.
James 3:13-18 13: Who is a wise man and endueth with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14: But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15: This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16: For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
A distracted mind is a confused mind and a confused mind is a defeated mind.
17: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy. 18: And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
We have to concentrate on Godly thoughts, this helps us avoid distraction and confusion. The Word of God is what gives us peace.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Confusion is from the devil. God is a god of order.
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Thou will keep him in perfect and constant peace, whose mind is stayed on thee. To stay your mind is to set your mind on a thing and not budge. Learning to stay your mind upon God enables you to manifest God's peace. Our business is to stay our minds, God's business is to bring the perfect peace to pass.
Philippians 4:6-7 6: Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep (to guard like a military guard) your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
God promises that as we go to Him He will give us peace, that peace shields our hearts from anxiety. Nothing is going to interrupt your peace when you refuse to be anxious making your request know to God with thanksgiving. When we have confidence in the promises of God, we have the peace of God in our hearts and minds.
Colossians 3:12-15 12: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13: Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14: And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15: And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
God's Word teaches us that no matter how far along we are in our walk we need to stay humble. We are to have humility and obedience to God and we are to be thankful allowing the peace of God to rule in our hearts. We are to be forgiving of one another and work hard (endeavor) to keep unity in the spirit.
Ephesians 4:3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond peace.
Peace is a bond and it is based on strength not weakness. We have peace when we are so strong and unified that our enemies can't stand up to us. The Word says be strong in the Lord. That's where our peace is and we maintain that peace by fellowship with God and with one another. The adversary endeavors to steal our peace, to get us distracted and divided sometimes in the smallest areas and from there he tries to build on a much larger scale. So it takes day by day vigilance and watchfulness to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. If anything causes division it needs to be straightend out, settled on a daily basis (within a 24 hour period.) It takes work to talk things through and be honest with people. We have to have respect for one another.
Proverbs 16:7 When a man's ways please the lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
When our ways are pleasing to the Lord, God can make our enemies to be at peace with us. He can change the hearts of our enemies in order that they may be at peace with us. So don't struggle, don't try to recompense (repay) evil for evil. Do the will of the Lord and then everything will be taken care of.
Mark 9:49-50 49: For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50: Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
In the East the taking of salt is a pledge, a promise of fidelity. If you come to someone's house and eat with them, food which is seasoned with salt, they can never betray you or do you harm. Even if you commit a crime and they are asked to testify they cannot do it. They may come to you and try to persuade you to do the right thing, but they would die before they would betray you. Salt in East is not like our salt, it comes in large stone jars, twenty or thirty pounds at a time. This jar stands on the floor of the kitchen and is like brown rock salt. The top of the jar is covered with a stone slab. Every morning the kitchen floor is washed with water, and in the course of time, the bottom of the stone jar becomes soaked with water so many times that the salt in the bottom of the jar actually loses its saltiness. By the time the salt is used down to the part from which the saltiness has leached away, the remainder is simply thrown out into the street and is trodden under foot. The person who falls away from the proper worship of God is like the salt at the bottom of the jar. Christians who have lost their saltiness are truely trodden under foot by the world. Our fellowship is meant to be a walk of committment. God and His Word first; in doctrine, in heart and in practice, that's salted living. We have to stay hot on God's Word and then our salt will keep it's saltiness.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
The senses realm offers a fleeting peace of mind, a fragmented rest that wilts under pressure. Something always comes along and overcomes it. The peace Jesus Christ made available does not depend upon circumstances, this peace is perfect.
Psalms 29:11 The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.
Isaiah 55:12 For ye shall go out with joy, ad be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
When we let go and let God by acting on the promises of His Word, we can rest in Him, be at peace and be relaxed and confident in the many responsibilites we face day by day.
To be at Peace: Stay your mind on God Have confidence in the promises of GOd Stay humble, meek Keep the unity of the spirit, be strong in the Lord Stay committed Let go and Let God
My exhortation to you; Cultivate quiet seas by developing and perfecting a quietness of the mind with peacefull thoughts. We can accomplish this with the Word of God, which teaches about God, His promises, how to live, how to stand on and claim those promises and how to walk in love and refuse to fear.
God bless and keep you. |
